bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
The point I was attempting to make is that we can't carry every tool and spare for every possible event...the harbor freight stuff is great for a field kit since you don't expect to use it much.

Done. I did not realize that 16mm and 5/8" were so close. For spark plug changes I always use the 5/8" dedicated spark plug socket with the rubber bushing inside, but it sure is nice to know that at 16mm socket will work as well.

    Thanks.

toolbag.jpg Thought I would do an inventory and reorganization. Here's what I just pulled out of the 14" toolbag

    Here's the additional tool roll

    part of full tools.jpg

Reels and umbrella I added in, what the hell.

Quite a bit from the toolroll can also fit into the 14" toolbag but I like the toolroll setup sometimes.

For extended trips I have even more in a rubbermaid tub, hacksaw, woodsaw, 18" channellocks, 18" crescent wrench, multimeter, OBDII, more Allens, gloves, safety glasses x2, a jar of spare nuts/bolts/screws, rivet gun, rivets, plumbers strap, cheater pipe, velcro kit, more socket rails, other assorted goodies.

Center console, box matches, butane lighters, YMMV.

Nice kit Monkeyface. might want to throw a cheap multi meter in there if you are familiar with how to use one.

I desperate need to make a list of tools to go in my trail tool bag. from the get go my truck was designed to have an expo trailer that a droop prior to going on the trail and I have designed both the rig and the trailer to allow for space for the tools and their weight. My tool list is going to be pretty ridiculous since my rig is an 05 D-cab and I am running 3 link front and rear with dana 60 front and rear as well. that said I get to carry all the normal tools for a taco plus a set of massive wrench for the johnny joints and rod ends and a full set of SAE crap to cover the axels, and the other fabricated stuff. prosily throw a 1/2 battery impact and a matching saw-zall in there too.

I will say this and this is the voice of experience speaking. for god sakes put a head lamp in the top of your tool bag wit spare batteries. it real suck to lay in the mud at night and either some ding dong is wiggling the light and making you dizzy or you are drowning in your own spit because you are laying on your back, holding your surefire or mag light in your mouth…just my two cents for what its worth

Crom's basic kit is the starting point.

True all that what you said. I have two headlamps with rechargeable batteries and a eightslot recharger I plug into the truck AC power. Battery drill, rechargeable from the truck AC power. 12V powerpack, rechargeable from the truck AC power. Maybe 14 lbs combined. Only a basic SAE set of sockets, but some metric six-points fit SAE. I like to carry six-point metrics.

It starts adding up for weight and room once you go beyond Crom's basic kit.

I love my taco tool kit I put together. I use it all the time on the Tacoma. Not all the HF stuff is bad. I really like the telescoping ratchets--they are strong and excellent for additional leverage, and the sockets work well--zero problems. I used my Taco kit to install a new suspension and (2) pairs of new UCA's as well as Dakar springs / ubolts. Also did the full 60K maintenance.

I always carry a tool kit, but I have never used it much. That's way I'm a Tacoma owner. Nice thread.

I added two more entries to the OP based on my own experiences.

    • Toyota uses 7/16-20 SAE fine thread for seat belt bolt hardware if your shopping for replacement bolts.

    • 7/32 SAE socket for Blower Motor Resistor screws
Thanks for the sticky @tcBob :)
