I am looking for a complete list of sockets and wrenches that are needed to work on the 2nd gen Tacoma--FACTORY PARTS ONLY. I have searched and I can't find such a list. I am willing to compile and keep this list. If you have good information let me know and I'll add it to this list.

    Metric sockets
    • 5.5 mm, blower motor resistor screws.
    • 8 mm, Running boards if you have them.
    • 10 mm, Center console bolts, Stereo, engine cover, tail lights, interior

    • 13 mm, Tube steps if you have them.
    • 14 mm, Transmission drain plug, Oil drain plug and Drive shaft bolts, exhaust system, center support bearing, Radiator bolts, and many, many more!
    • 16 mm, Deep socket for spark plugs (16mm is virtually same as 5/8"; If you carry a 5/8 dedicated spark plug socket you don't need the 16mm)
    • 17 mm, Power steering, Sway Bar, Cab mount nuts, leaf spring bolts, nuts.
    • 19 mm, Lower Control Arm bolts and nuts., Deep socket for PCV valve

Well, if you want the minimum I guess you could do this. Personally, I find that I carry a whole extra shit ton of tools that I rarely use but that when I need them I'm god damn happy I have them. This is dumb.

    Just food for thought.

If you go on a trail ride with someone else, and they don't have tools, wouldn't it be beneficial to carry MORE than what you just need for your own vehicle? As a Just In Case thing.

Personally, I just carry a generic socket/wrench set that fits in behind one of the seats.

A lot of the smaller bolts are 10 mm ....you may want to invest in a Haynes Manual

I haven't had much need to work on the Tacoma, but I know my cars have all 10, 12, 14, 17mm bolts, no 11, 13, 15mm at all. But... when you need a bolt the ones at the autoparts store tend to have 13 or 15mm heads. If you're trying to minimize the amount of gear for an expedition outfit or something this might be something to consider. Hate to break a bolt and find a replacement but then not have the right size wrench for it.

Interesting. I could've used this earlier when I was at Harbor Freight (found what I needed anyway). Not a bad idea, really.

Axle nut on the 05+ trucks is 35mm.

Someone posted the wrong information somewhere early on and it's been perpetuated ever since.

I have a basic generic set but it would be cool to put together a set of everything needed to do anything, as well as spare bolts and shit
