Thread revival. Anyone with them in the door for extended period of time?

they'll be fine in the door. the oem speakers are paper cone speakers. if moisture was a significant issue, we'd be seeing a ton of people replacing the paper speakers because excessive moisture would make the cones sag.

In the doors for 6-7 years. Hot and humid in the summer, cold and wet winters here.

No speaker pictures on this computer. I do have the new HU pictures.

Don't put crossovers in the doors. They have to battle excessive forces from door closings and possibly humidity. Leave them in the cab and run 2 sets of wires.

My problem is that I've been running 6x9 3-way speakers in the doors off a single wire. That single wire isn't long enough to reach where I would mount the crossover in the door.

    I can either:

1.) Pull the single wire back through the door to the cab and use it as a cable pull to get 2 new wires into the cab and mount the crossover inside. The only concern here is where do I put the crossover. Not sure if there is room behind some of the kick panels.

2.) Pull a new wire that is long enough all the way back to the amp. Could be a PITA

3.) Solder extra wire onto the existing. This seems like I could get sound quality degradation.

I mounted mine up high in the kicks. Above the factory wiring, on some industrial Velcro.

I managed to mount each of my crossovers inside the doors by using some leftover pieces of ABS plastic as mounting brackets.

    2 years installed no issues

Similar set up to the one above. Ran my own wires and added a little vibration dampening but pretty much same location. 2 years all seasons. Car was every couple weeks. Zero issues. B937247D-2240-4BB3-A0B8-C9E2CA48B006.jpg

tell your kids to stop slamming doors!

as far as humidity, i would venture a guess that condensate issues would be more extreme inside the vehicle when using the a/c for an extremely long time and then parking in the heat/humidity. the doors are somewhat insulated, and could potentially be a more temperate location being subjected to exterior temperatures longer, which would result in a less dramatic temperature variance.

    just devil's advocate ;)

I'd be less concerned about humidity; especially on the interior side of the vapor barrier. It's the vibes from closing that pose the most risk - especially the caps. Most of these also use heavy ceramic resistors and inductors which endure greater stress due to their weight. It's also tougher to get to if you want to adjust the attenuation on the crossover.

Better yet, set it up active & kiss the passive crossovers goodbye. The difference is night & day.

fully active is the way to go. used to be it couldn't be done for under $2k for just the amps and processor. now, it could be done under $500...

So I wanted to mount them to the door as pictured above, but the speaker wire I ran when I installed the 6x9s wasn't long enough to reach there. So rather than run new wire all the way back to the amp, I pulled the wire back through the door and put the crossovers sort of up above and behind the kick panel. I attached it with some velcro to hold onto the carpeted piece up there. Between the velcro and pressure from the other stuff around it, I don't think they will move. Then ran two new wires into the door. The end result looks something like this:

Tweeter adapters were made from a cheap walmart cutting board (under $2). I used the OEM tweeter as the template for the new adapter.
