No need to remove the dash to get to the expansion valve. You get to it from under the hood through the fire wall.

Here are some more pictures for you. Don't forget the filter in the tube.

Wow! That's nasty. I leave AC work to the pros, so I've never seen anything like that. So, did the compressor make obvious noise indicating failure, in that truck?

yes plus a dye check warranty will not cover compressor unless condenser and expansion valve are replaced

Just posted the below in another older thread, and then noticed this one. To sum it up, dealer says they can't remove the expansion valve form the firewall due to the fact that the 'mode case' housing (diagram attached) and/or the insulation in the firewall will prevent access to the valve.

My symptoms are cool air on the drivers side and progressively warmer air in the vents toward the passenger's side. Brand new compressor and full charge, so hoping expansion valve and/or filter might be the issue.

Can those of you who have done it confirm that neither the mode case housing nor the insulation was obstructing access to the expansion valve through the firewall?

    Thanks for any info!

    Cheers,

    Chris

You should be able to screw in the Torx E10 and pull it out after you remove the T25 Bolts.
