Kudos for getting your truck into that. Kinda jealous

Crawl control is best for crawling up hilly and/or rocky terrain, possibly in deep sand too (from my understanding).

Mud is one of those obstacles that needs momentum and lots of wheelspin to keep your lugs clean, imo; also making sure your traction control is completely off, which 4 low should do for you automatically. 4 low, second gear, and higher rpm will be your friend!

But yea, that looks a bit deep regardless. Good learning experience.

    Just a few points.
In crawl, all wheels will turn roughly together, however they go rather slow in all crawl control speeds, so I would bet you might not see it or realize it is turning. (also keep in mind that the system requires enough brake friction to hold the opposite wheel. I don't know if brakes filled with mud will generate enough friction)

For OR automatic models, in 4Lo the truck defaults to NO traction control so in effect just open diffs are the default. Rear locker will correct that in the rear, but you will need to use MTS to give simulated locker in the front (or crawl control).

Note, this is different behavior than the other trims.

Did the dudes trying to winch you out let enough line out? I don’t remember the math but too much spooled line decreases your pulling power. Glad you didn’t break anything when getting pulled out.

    Crawl control

OP you want wheel speed and make it rain mud

4hi traction control off has always worked for me

And all the people that are saying nothing could make it through that or you found the limits of the truck are wrong. That's a baby puddle. If a Ram made it through you should have too. You just did it wrong

Math is roughly..... if you have half the line spooled, the winch is half the rated power/weight. At least that's what I remember reading.

this is for an 8,000 lbs winch
    Layer 1 – 8000lbs.
    Layer 2 – 6777lbs.
    Layer 3 – L5878lbs.
    Layer 4 – 5189lbs.

The design of mud tires is to clear mud at high speeds. The mud is flung out of the tread by centrifugal force. If you get mired and there is no traction, crawl or MTS or locker is not going to help.

If I had to go through that bog hole, I would have hit it with more speed and aired down to give you a longer tread contact patch and more flotation. The Ram likely benefited from larger tires.

Stock wrangler with kevlar suck in the mud.
3000 rpm in 3rd gear doing 25 to 30 mph on flats and little down hills, Aired down to 18 psi going up hill was more like 10mph sometimes to less than 5mph. Like the truck was on ice. Knew if I stopped, it wasn't going to move forward again.
    2wd problems.

First wrap is 100% of the winches pulling power, each wrap after decreases the power but increases the speed.

Think 2nd wrap is 84% and 3rd wrap is 73% winch capacity.

Do your truck a favor and check your airbox and filter. I have seen people hydrolock their motors in goo only a bit deeper than that. It's rare with mud but it does happen.

All the line out means the winch is pulling at 100% capacity and as has been mentioned , each wind of rope around the drum decreased the pulling power of the winch by 15% or so...each wrap. Spool our all the line, throw several snatch blocks in the loop and increase the capability but decrease the speed.
Clearly he did find the limits of his capability and truck cause he called a tow.

Not saying nothing could have made it through but he surely didn’t.

I agree he found his limits mainly because of experience but the truck can do so much more than that little baby puddle
