Tacoma gets a full size spare while the Ridgey gets an itty bitty thing.

I like Hondas. We had a Honda Pilot and still have an Odyssey. I bought the Pilot primarily because it had reasonable sized third row seating that I thought would be useful. Turns out that I needed a truck more often than the third row, so I got rid of it for the Tacoma.

Here is what I thought of the options I considered:

Ridgeline - A decent enough vehicle for people who need to pick up a few bags of mulch from Home Depot. It rides well and has more luxury options than a Tacoma like nav, leather seats, and automatic climate control. Stability control and side airbags are standard equipment. The locking trunk in the bed is neat. Unibody construction was a concern. AWD system is probably more effective in slipperly on-road conditions than 4WD, but not as good off road. The exterior styling is absolutely fugly.

Frontier - More powerful then the Tacoma. Could get a lot more features at a lower price compared to a Tacoma. Side curtain airbags and stabilility control were optional, but readily available in packages. Liked the options of heated leather seats, moonroof, and heated outside mirrors. The standard roof rack on LE trucks was ugly, but probably useful. I didn't like the interior plastic materials because they looked and felt cheap. I thought the truck was louder than the Tacoma at highway speeds. Resale value and gas mileage were both worse than the Tacoma.

Tundra - I loved the Tundra. Comfortable seating position. Great options availability. Tons of room. Plenty of payload capacity and towing power. However, it is just a massive vehicle and too big for what I need. I couldn't stomach the purchase price and gas mileage.

Tacoma - Very good reliability record. Frame construction. Good predicted resale value. Adequate power and best gas mileage of the models I considered. I really believe this truck could last me 10 years if I decide to keep it that long. Had to really search to find the options I wanted, but they were available.

I'm gonna have to disagree about the Frontier being cheaper. I looked at Nissan. I priced a loaded up Frontier with the nissmo pkg and it was about $500 cheaper than the tacoma. that was what made me go with teh taco. if the nissmo frontier had been cheaper i would have considered it. but i got the taco with teh TRD and all that fun stuff for around hte same price

:confused: Have you started drinking already? The nissmo was cheaper, so you went with the trd because it was the same price?

I guess it comes down to configurations and incentives.

When I was shopping, I could spec the trucks as close to the same as possible, plus add leather and something else that I don't recall and be cheaper with Nissan after applying the incentive.

I also felt like I had a lot more negotiating power with Nissan simply because they had a ton of inventory in the configuration I wanted. There were only two Tacomos in my region with the configuration I wanted.

the nissmo was about $500 cheaper. when buying a 30k truck i basically consider that the same price. $500 doesnt make a difference when you pay that much. i went with the taco cause i liked it more and it was roughly the same price. but if the nissan had been about 5 grand less i would have gone with it.
