Also... heat works wonders on shitty rusted bolts. Especially after 6 days of PB blasting 3 times a day.. a few minutes of heat works wonders... Even on your back muscles :D

Does anyone have any experience with greasable shackle set vs. oem set?

I've been a mechanic before, I've read TSB's. I also know that things that can be checked for free and very simply should be. Get off your high horse man.

A bit more than a hunch, but I think its a good policy to rule out cheaper possibilities, prior to spending that kind of money. I will check the u-joints, but if you do a search on this forum for axle wrap, you'll see its a very common problem and the symptoms are very distinct.

No doubt, and that'd be my first assumption as well, based on the history with these trucks. Seems silly to not check u-joints when there is driveline thumps though, I've seen them do it on deceleration/stops as well (driveline unloading).

No skin off my back though, if I'm too knew/don't have enough posts for some, I guess they just don't have to take my advice into consideration.

Dude, I don't give a shit how many post someone has, I don't look for numbers, I look at the content, & I'm not in disagreement with checking drive line (U joints, sliding yokes, etc;) something that should be done on a regular basis, but with the OP's issue & symptoms it cannot be anything else BUT axle wrap, I put up with the same shit for at least a year , with exactly same symptoms, rebuilt my stock springs & it is a done deal, no more axle wrap, Now if the OP wants to spend $600 + to remedy this thats up to him, not everyone wants to get that "hands-on" with their trucks (rebuild, like i did)

    P.S. I wasn't trying to come off like a know-it-all
(because I sure as hell don't know all)
Its only because i just went thru this

I'm with ya, I sure the heck would learn to get "hands on" fast if I wasn't before spending almost a grand for a pair of leaf springs.

I've done almost all the work on my truck myself, and I plan on installing the leaf springs myself, if I decide to go ahead with that. I don't know how to be much more "hands on."

So rebuilding your stock springs cured your axle wrap (4wd) ?

I've heard from one taco owner who purchased the 4 pack leaf set and it didn't fix the problem. Anybody else have trouble fixing the axle wrap?

That was me, wheelers' 4 leaf pack didn't fix axlewrap on my 2001 double cab 4wd. I ordered the 2" add a leaf and it fixed it. I don't think it's the lift, I think it's the extra leaf spring that helped.

Why do people go with the 4 over the 5?

Also if you wouldn't of hmmm'd and hawwwww'd over the leaf-pack purchase for the past week or so you could've gotten in on the Wheelers 5-Leaf Group Buy and gotten the 5-pack for $390 (15% off).

    Good luck to you!

I will echo that new leaf springs don't guarantee a fix.

I have an 03 Dbl Cab 4wd Auto - just replaced the entire suspension with the Wheelers complete OME setup listed here for $1,139: Axle wrap still exists for me - no change to the axle wrap issue whatsoever after the new suspension - it is just as bad. I measured my heights before and after - I needed the suspension but it did not fix the issues for me. I have the distinct clunk when braking or taking off from a quick stop. If I ease the brakes to come to a stop it does it significantly less.

Just some discussion info - I plan to have my ujoints looked at - by the shop that did my install. Also I need to post pics in OME thread - I really like the way it sits now with my new wheels.

I originally wanted to keep the stock height, then decided to lift it a few months later.
