Do y'all's shifters feel real notchy when you're driving?

    Edit: meant to say notchy

Lol, yeah. It's bitchy. In a good way though. It's easy to find the gate, but tough to put it in the wrong hole (giggity). It is a very hard feel to describe. If it's what you are looking for, you love it.

The shifter is really interesting, if I drive "perfect" it's one smooth click into gear. If I just drive it normal I get a mix of notchy and smooth click. I had one of these in an old chevy (it was in fact a core shifter) and it felt quite different, less of an H. But I think that was just old transmission feel.

I find it doesn't behave when you are gentle. With the core shifer, you need to be deliberate and forceful. It's not hard to get into gear, you just need to be very sure you want it to go where you're putting it. When you get used to it, and get it right. It's pretty much perfect.

Does anybody else's hurst stick get warm after 30-45min of freeway driving? The heat transfer makes sense, given it's ultimately connected to the transmission. Just curious, since everything was previously shielded by the boot cover with stock setup.

Did the install over the weekend: entirely straightforward except for those front two bolts. Used some flex head ratcheting wrenches and I think I was able to get them to close to the torque spec. Probably should have loctited them in, but I figured if I ever wanted to get them out, it would be even harder! I think a crowfoot is the right tool for the job, but unfortunately Harbor Freight was sold out and they seem less common than the flex wrenches. TRD pro knob is in the mail, and I'm finding an adapter (that hopefully isn't a $6 adaptor and $12 shipping...).

I also followed the advice from @lapoltba and stretched the inner boot over the core shifter and it worked perfectly.

Re: NVM and heat transfer: I hear a little bit of a whine, mostly in 6th, but light music drowns it out. Didn't notice any warmth, but it's also 20-30F out today, so... I did notice that my stick is silicon sealed to the bracket, unsure if that's always been the way they've been assembled, but curious if that's for NVH or heat.

I contacted Chris to see if I could get one where the bracket isn't connected (as I wanted to powder coat the stick black--I hate the chrome) and he was... as others have described. Has anyone de-chromed and powder coated (or otherwise gotten rid of the chrome)? I think I saw one post earlier with it covered in leather wrap--I might just use some gaffer tape :/

I wonder if the extra material on the stock lever acts as a heat sink to some extent.

Scuff it up and paint it? Since there is a shift boot, you would not need to worry about the very bottom where the bracket is located.

Dealing with the vendor and the gaudy chrome are the two things keeping me away from this.

On the verge of pulling the trigger on one of these but know well enough by now to stay away from bad vendors.

Are we talking KTJO plug-n-pray nightmare? Worse? Better?

Nah. Just a personality problem with the guy. He's like the Soup Nazi. You follow the rules, don't ask questions, and get what is offered (nothing else), or no soup for you.

As a chrome hater and with no need for the Hurst knob, I don't want to think about the interaction. My ideal kit would be the Core mount and the bracket, with a small price reduction to reflect that.

Understood, thanks. That would actually be my ideal setup as well but was hoping to score a @7r41lbr34k3r knob to keep the boot covering the chrome.

Still leaves me with a useless Hurst knob but I can deal with that.

Exactly! I have my delrin knob all worked in after 17 excellent months. :D

There are adapters between the Core shaft and stock threads. But, it is just a mental block for me.

soup nazi. that's funny. in the beginning he didn't give me the soup and canceled my order as you may remember, because he didn't like the idea that i was using an extension. turns out his memory isn't great so i got my soup eventually anyway. and damn it was totally worth it!

That would be nice. I have sampled @7r41lbr34k3r 's V2 knob and followed a Taco with @MESO 's TotalTails. Both were a joy use and see. I was showing off the DMM this weekend. TW is just . . . TW. :spending:

That was my route and it works perfectly. The adapter you need to get the stock thread for a knob is below. I put the adapter on the Hurst shaft with red loctite and let it cure before putting the knob on. Don't be sorry about wasting the Hurst knob it comes with. It is nothing special. I threw mine away....
