Correct me if I am wrong, BUT TRDs came only V6

I'm looking to pick up another 1st Gen Tacoma... I've been looking at TRDs but then again I may stick with one just below the TRD (Cruise & Electric Windows/Locks).

Anyways, I found this one on eBay.. It looks good, but I am confused.

Is that a TRD?

I thought TRDs came with:
- V6
- 265/75-16 Alloy tires & wheels
- Rear E-Locker (RR Diff Lock button)
- Cruise Control
- Electric Windows & Door Locks.

The seller swears its a TRD, but won't provide me any pictures of the rear axle. He even says Toyota told him it was a TRD.

Try to contact toyota and run the VIN to see if it was TRD or not. There could have been some special order or something to get this exact set up, but I think all of the TRD's that I have ever seen have the options that you listed above. This one clearly does not have those items!

 

Depending on what it sells for, it does look like a pretty nice truck though.

 

None of the pics show a rear diff locker button, so I'm gonna say someone put a sticker on it to sell for more. Doesn't mean it isn't a nice truck though, still wouldn't trust someone that insists it's a TRD though.

 

Not a TRD. There is no button on the dash to engage the rear locker. It would be on the left of the steering wheel, its not there. Never heard of a 2.7 TRD either.

I have never seen the black TRD stickers from the factory. Looks like someone slapped those on afterward. Either he got duped or he is trying to dupe you... Still a clean truck. If it was a 5-speed, I'd be interested. Had a 2002 2.7, LOVED that truck.

As long as you know what youre buying and like it, I say go for it

 

Someone put the TRD stickers on that truck. They are from a 2nd gen, since the 1st gens didn't have two different TRD packages (Sport/Off-Road).

 

Someone dressed it to look like a TRD. They even put a TRD skid plate on it.

 

They did make 4cyl TRD's, but that one is most definitely not one of them.

The ebay add says its the 4 cyl, 2.7L paired with an automatic transmission. The TRD package was available for this configuration but it would not have the e-locker. So what the seller is claiming, may be true. It may be an original TRD model.

Toyota never paired the e-locker with the 4 cyl auto. All TRD trucks with auto trans and e-lockers were equiped with the v6.

 

nickonfire had pointed out that both stickers were driver side stickers, thats what I had quoted. Did you edit it away?? Either way, take a look at the passenger side sticker

At first I thought they were both driver side stickers, but I went to go look to see if the stickers were sold side specific, they aren't. Should the "Off-Road" on the passenger side sticker be behind the "TRD"?

 

I myself had a 4 cyl TRD. My '99 was TRD, 5spd and push button locker. My first Tacoma, loved that truck!

 

Ok, I guess youre right, they arent side specific. I quick google image search proved it for me

 

I have an 02 extra cab with a 2.7 and five speed. mine is the sr5 and trd package. electric everything, cruise, electric locker, and a sunroof.

 

Those TRD stickers are not factory that and there is no rear diff locking switch so I would believe that it is not a true TRD.

 

I concur with everyone else.

Also, being I don't think anyone's brought it up.

All 01-04 TRDs would have come with the 5 spoke starfish 16" alloys.

TRD's were available with the 2.7 4 cylinder engine, but the TRD's equipped with the 4 didn't have the rear locker. Only the v6 TRD's got the locker.
