I can't say that I'm surprised you are having issues being from up north- Worst conditions for causing corrosion.
Other folks have had some issues with bubbling- They went back to the dealers and worked out a resolution. I think most got their current rims refinished, as the corrosion was caused by improper prep from the factory.

It's not the paint.....but probably whatever coating they use to cover the alluminum.

I've got a few small spots (alluminum oxidation) on each rim, but nothing major for almost being 3 years old.

Take 'em to the dealer and see what they can do for you.

Mine did the same thing. The dealer had a "specialist" come out and redo the clearcoat on them. I wasnt too impressed because i knew i was going to replace them or repaint them myself so i said f it. if its still under warranty go make a scene

I'm just back home from my local totota dealership with warranty replacement rims. !! they are soooo blingin sweet. no more bubbles.
I would recommend taking any rims from the 05+ serries sports into your dealership for a look-see. they ordered our replacement rims the day we showed them the problem. the service manager said it was an known issue and they'd been given the authorization for immedeate replacement of any customer's rims that were showing signs of corrosion.

we are very, very pleased with the look. they are much more of a 'chrome' look this time. and look extra sweet with our new Dueler Revo 2 245/75r17 on them!

    happy trails,
    thom

Mine have done the exact same thing. How many miles were on your truck when you did this. I'm at 60k and am wondering if they wll replace mine or deny me because I am over my warranty?

We had just over 18K on our 2007 TRD, though the service manager said this has been a manufacturer's defect since 2005 with that particular wheel supplier. Apparently it is a well known issue, so hopefully your dealership will help out. My understanding is the dealers are not taking any finacial hit on this...it is the supplier.

I will have to look into this more since mine are really bad. I have 75,000 on my 05 so hopefully I am not S.O.L. Does anybody have any documentation that Toyota is recoating or replacing these? The last time I asked, maybe about 3-4 months ago my dealer said sorry about your luck.

I just called the dealership and explained to them that I have an 06 Tacoma TRD Sport and the wheels have corrosion on them. They basically told me the same thing you did and the wheels are only covered under the 3 year 36k warranty. So I'm basically screwed!

I have a 2007 Tacoma with 33K miles with badly bubbling rims on all four tires. It started on the rear about 2 years ago. I chalked it up to maybe heat from the back brakes but it spread to the front recently, just not as badly. Took it to to the dealer today and they immediately ordered new rims. Will be here in two days. No questions asked.

I know this thread is waaaay old in TACO-Time but i have an update on our situation.

The local dealer here on the Oregon Coast was wonderful. The rims were ordered and swapped out in about a week's time. The new rims are nicer than the one's originaly on the truck when purchased new in 07.

NOW, March 2010, ~3 months after the swap out at the dealership~ my wife wants to go black! Soooo....our local tire center is sending off the rims this week for a nice semi-gloss-black finish. The locals that have these run them up in the woods while hunting and camping. Gonna be fun to see them on the TACO. I'll put up pics in some appropriate place when we have them on.
