    Dirty throttle body ?
Give it a cleaning , remove the battery posts and do an idle re-learn
I have seen throttle cables fry in the past due to crappy grounds but usually they get so hot , they never function again .
Also very common for the shifter cable going down to the transmission to fry .
This can be fixed by cleaning as well as adding extra grounds throughout the truck body to frame

Yes it has an AIC, and it only happens at idle, at stop lights and such but it doesn’t happen all the time. I can’t imagine that it’s manifold vacuum keeping it stuck... ehhh springtime now, I will figure it out eventually and write a novel or at least a pop up book about it...

push and pull axially(in and out) on the throttle body bell crank and see how much play there is at idle and part throttle. I bet that the throttle body is just worn and the plate is binding in the bore.

You can always just have the throttle body rebuilt for 125.00 with new butterfly and bored by maxbore if the problem is related to the wall being worn or butterfly being worn which is very common

My 2001 has the same problem, 2.7L, 5 speed no cruise control. The problem happen from idle with foot off the gas on mine, it is an intermittent problem but when it does happen you have to get on the gas pretty hard for it to free up. I have not been able to figure this problem out either and looking for help as well.

I cured my 98 2.7 auto by giving the butterfly stop screw just a slight turn in maybe a 1/4 turn at most. Works perfectly now. Look back at the pictures scocar posted and one he points out the screw with a locknut.

Just look to make sure the floor is not cracked around where the cable goes through.

I had this happen it caused some strange idle problems causing the cable to get hung up .

Then I am checking every thing on the engine side .

If you don`t use the cruise control remove that cable I pulled the all the engine side parts out

Turn the throttle plate stop screw in 1/4-2/3 turn. Expect the idle to temporarily be high but the pooter will figure it out. Mine was clean but the id bore of housing is slightly worn and plate was hanging up. Worked for me anyway

Rachelsdaddy, I'll give the stop screw a try and see if it works. I'm sure mine has plenty of wear in the housing after 338,000 miles and it could probably use a good cleaning in there as well, sometimes when you crank it up after it has set for several hours it wants to idle really rough almost like it has a miss on one cylinder but it clears right up and runs perfect afterwards. This just happen once in a while and last for just a second or two. Thanks for the help.

Tim, Have your calves been adjusted lately? I recently did mine and it made a great difference on the cold startup. Mostly intake valves were down to little or no clearance. Runs very smooth now, even with over 300k

John, they have not been adjusted. Believe it or not I have never taken it back to a dealer or mechanic to be tuned up, I'm pretty old school about things like that (if it ain't broke don't fix it) but it could use a good tune up I'm sure. I may break out the old repair manual and tackle it myself, my experience with dealer in the past is they like to fix stuff that they find without your knowledge until you get the huge bill afterwards.

I'm pretty sure I found the cause of my sticky throttle and rough idle, here are before and after cleaning pictures of the back side of my throttle body. I guess after almost 19 years and 338,200 plus miles of never having been cleaned it deserves a good cleaning.20191221_125644.jpg 20191221_133040.jpg
