Good info in here. Mods is there a way to sticky this on top of the recent threads on the homepage to increase visibility?

All schools in the major counties are closing here in WA for at least 4-6 weeks starting monday. Events larger than 250 people are cancelled as well.

You might say "oh this is just a flu, it's not serious". Well it's serious enough to overfuckingwhelm hospitals in other countries. It's not the immediate symptoms from the virus that is the most dangerous part, it's the shutting down of supply chains an hospital beds for those who are sick with other conditions as well. Plus, there is no vaccine slated for release anytime soon.

We, as in the boomers, gen x, millennial, etc, have been lucky enough not to have gone through a mass pandemic such as the spanish flu or things like polio in our life time, which makes us more skeptical about an actual pandemic. The fact is that it's real and it's here. Do your part and don't spread misinformation.

    Stop panic buying/hoarding. Period.

Particularly distilled water. People need that for medical equipment.

If there is any question as to how bad it could get, look at Iran.

All K-12 public schools in Ohio are closed for three weeks. Public gatherings of over 100 people are banned. My kids dance studio has announced they’re closing for the same three week period. I imagine the daycare/preschool will follow shortly...

My work, and my ex wife’s work have instructed all salaried employees to work remotely for the remainder of this month and possibly longer. I’ll be working from home at least until my children are back in school.

And yes, the mass hysteria and panic buying needs to stop... it won’t, but it’s downright embarrassing. I was at two different local grocery stores last night and checkout lines were hours long (at 10 pm). Not a paper product or raw meat product left on the shelf (but plenty of canned food items). I was there to get some things for my mom, who just had back surgery. I filled my gas tank up and picked up a few things to prepare for having my kids at home for an extended period of time but I did not mass purchase anything. I have a reverse osmosis water purifying system installed in my kitchen with several five gallons jugs full of filtered water ready, if needed. But holy hell, it was ridiculous seeing what people were buying.

I understand and appreciate the intentions to flatten the curve, but people need to be smarter about what (and how much) they are buying. Buy things that will last and that you actually need. No one needs 100 rolls of toilet paper...

I'm stationed in Bavaria Germany and they just closed all German and America schools today. I work at the NCO Academy, the only one in Europe. We had to VTC all the Italy soldiers and might possibly do it for the rest of soldiers stationed in Europe next cycle.

Flattening the curve is the opposite of consumer therapy.

The problem with capitalism is people think they can buy their way out of anything. Nature dictates otherwise.

Have any young healthy folks died from this yet? We have a confirmed case/death here in Kansas and it was an older man.

And what I’ve seen is the older/ immune compromised folks have a higher mortality rate. I just haven’t seen any reports of young(20-40 yo) relatively health folks dying yet. (USA, not other countries)

All Los Angeles unified schools will be closed for 2 weeks starting Monday. They will re-evaluate the situation and extend as needed.
