Went to the dealer today and explained everything to them. They scheduled me for a frame inspection on Tuesday to see if it would be covered. They said IF they were to do the frame replacement, it could cost me up to 3 grand if things brake or go wrong when replacing the frame... This seems like a bunch of bullshit. Shouldnt they cover it if they broke it? Also, my problem is a cracked weld and 1/2 inch frame crack stemming off of that. The frame recall is rust perforation, so if this isnt considered "rust perforation" that created the crack, then they probably wont cover it. Is there any other tactic I could use to have them cover it or buy it back?

Is he just getting it welded back up? Or getting supports welded in as well?

I don't know the full details that's why I tagged the guy who is fixing it to maybe provide more details about the repair.

No problem. I hope you get it sorted out. He has a 2006 access cab btw and this is a known issue to be had with 2005 and 2006 models.

Thats what I have been reading. I have an 05 Access cab. Toyota will check it out but I have a shitty feeling they will not do anything about it even with me being a persistent pain in their asses.

I gotchya. Makes sense, just a shitty situation. If I were to have someone weld it back up and weld in some supports, do you think it would be safe enough to sell to someone else and get a new truck?

You're making a much bigger deal out of this than it needs to be. Unless you have a 10 mm hole rusted in your frame, Toyota is not going to replace your frame. The yahoos at the dealer are not going to weld on your frame and I wouldn't trust them to do it right, if they offered. Someone that has the equipment and knowledge to prep, weld, and reinforce it will probably charge somewhere in the neighborhood of $250 to $500. Once done, it will be stronger than any factory Toyota frame. Chevy, Ford, and Dodge all have stupid stuff that fails and the dealers tell people too bad. Here's the bill to fix it. Toyota goes above and beyond to fix some things for Toyota owners, so many Toyota owners have the attitude that anything over basic maintenance should be covered under warantee 10 years and 3 owners down the road. Buck up, pay to have it fixed and continue to enjoy driving your Tacoma.

He is having the crack welded and the dmz motor mount gusset kit welded for added strength.

I welded the entire crack, all the spiderwebbing, and added the gusset kit.

Do you fix all the mounts or just the one that broke?

During the first round of frame replacements when they were being done on toyota's part they would good will a lot of parts to keep customers happy. After the law suit that all ended because of legal issues now if toyota helps one customer out they are legally obligated to help every customer out. I Just did a frame on a 2006 tacoma with a broken off control arm that destroyed the axle and brakes and wheel bearing when it split that customer ended up having to buy everything and i got him a break on labor cause i felt bad.

You sir are a hero as a toyota tech i wished half the frame replacement customers thought like you or even thought to take advantage of how much crap they could get replaced on a truck without labor just parts.

The kit comes with gussets for both sides, however the drivers side is a 2 piece gusset, much stronger than the passenger, but the drivers side is the one that typically fails. So I did both.

I was welding on a slider kit last week and noticed it, so we did it for both reasons actually, it reacted my making a clicking noise and we prevented a complete failure by fixing it.
Now he wont need to worry about the engine perches at least!
