You know what I'm considering? Windshield protective film. There are a few of them out there. Trying to find the right one for the right price. So far, i found 3 of them. EcoShield, ClearPlex, and Diamond Fusion. They range anywhere between $250-$400. Anyone in TW have this on their windshield?

I can tell you guys don’t live up here in Alberta Canada.
You are lucky to survive a month of winter without a chip or crack.

Glass shops around here will drill the end of a crack for about $20 and fill it so it won’t spread any further.

Here we don’t replace windshields until they are absolutely wrecked.

I think the best solution would be to just lower your comprehensive coverage to $100. Plus it will come in handy for a lot of things beyond windshield replacement.

Update on my Fuyao installed by Safelite ... its been in for 2 1/2 months and 4K miles. The trim still doesn't fit right but I don't notice it anymore. No noticeable wind noise ... and I asked my wife recently while she was driving if she noticed anything, as she can be more sensitive than me, and she said it was fine. We haven't had a huge amount of rain here yet, but did have one massive but short downpour in the Sierras a few months ago, and no leaks. Also, about 100 miles of dirt in Baja, some of it with other traffic and a few flying rocks, and no cracks.

I'm on my 3rd replacement windshield. I had a non-OEM done first and it looked awful and leaked like a sieve. They mangled my pillars doing it (long story). They put in an OEM windshield which fit perfectly but still leaked. They resealed it and that seemed to solve the issue, until the top of the windshield started to weep.

They just replaced it again a few days ago so hopefully that finally solves my issue. The A-pillar seal is a bit crooked but as long as it seals, that's all I care about unfortunately. It sucks how things change. What was originally a please don't scratch my truck turned into a please don't leak anymore.

Sounds like they messed up during the installment.

When I had mine replaced the tech told me all glass must meet federal [DOT] standards...said it's the same glass...just does not say Toy...so far no leaks.

Sure it has to meet federal standards ... so do tires, but that doesn't mean a Primewell is the same as a Michelin. If a certain vendor is aftermarket only, for example, the fit may not be as good as the OEM suppliers. And even if the company is the same, the aftermarket part may come from a factory China while Tacoma OEM parts are more likely to be made in North America near the Texas or Baja assembly plants.

    Well technically it was :

    - Messed up during crack repair
    - Messed up during installation
    - Messed up during installation
    - Messed up during re-seal
    - Messed up during check

    - Got it right(?)

The sad thing is that Items #1 through 4 were done at different franchises of the same shop.

Try Central Glass near you off RT 24. Have had many issue free replacements from them. Tech has 30 years doing auto glass..

Maybe, but not everything out of China is junk--all of the iphones are made in China. I will admit, a lot is junk!

Just had Safelite replace windshield for the 3rd time on 2016 TRD Sport, 1st one the passenger side molding curled out, safelite cut it out and re-glued, then started leaking air along the top, safelite replaced 2nd time, air leak was twice as bad, loud high pitched whistle. I could eyeball along the roof seal and see where the window was bowed out in two places, I told safelite I needed OEM, insurance, GEICO, wouldn't pay $300 extra for OEM, wanted safelite to try aftermarket one more time. I would not go for that so safelite installed OEM at their cost. Haven't driven yet but top seal looks flush, fingers crossed. Safelite told me aftermarket is exactly the same as OEM, NOT true, OEM has two clips that clip to roof line exactly where the leaks were at, aftermarket did not have these clips, don't let them BS you, they are NOT THE SAME!

It's not so much Safelite, they told GEICO OEM was needed but GEICO wanted them to keep installing aftermarket glass at their expense, so they wouldn't have to pony up another $300, that's why safelite went ahead and did the OEM. Bottom line it don't matter which glass shop you go to if they install aftermarket glass without the brow clips it ain't gonna work. I did take it out on the interstate today up 90mph not a peep.
