Glass coverage is a must have in Arizona. I go through 2 to 3 windshields per vehicle a year. It's a real hassle. Sometimes I just drive with it til it gets bad or I have a bunch of them. The Taco currently has 3 good ones. it could be time.

Damage is simulated...no actual tacos were injured for this demonstration

Another thread with useful information, thanks! I just called Allstate, and to go from a $500 to a $0 comprehensive deductible, it's an increase of $4 a month! That's a no brainer. They said the policy is in immediate effect. My next question is, if I were to call, say in 48 hours, and make a claim for a cracked windshield, would that look bad? lol

Yeah, it's a big crack, but not in the line of sight.

Ive had 2 windshields on the Taco in 9 years. also had 1 on my old corolla. the truck was from chips on the highway. the corolla was two chips that morphed into a crack all the way across when i was too lazy to push the snow off the window and just ran the heater full blast to melt it off.

The Taco has always had glass coverage so i just went with the insurance glass twice and happy with both.

the corolla didn't have glass coverage, (at the time it didn't even have collision) i called my insurance agent and spoke to them and they put in the windshield order for me with the company they always use. When the guy came out he couldn't understand how i got the price i did, $168. apparently they were very fair because of how much business the insurance co pushes to them.

My friend bought a new motorcycle, totaled it out on first day of ownership, paid insurance premium for the first month only, got paid out $12,000 and then canceled the policy next day.

its all business. the agent you deal with isn't going to care just up the coverage and put in the claim.

So if you wanted to take advantage of the lower deductible, that would require you lying about when the windshield actually cracked. They are going to ask what the date of loss is, and whatever the deductible was of the policy at that time is what you would have to pay. Now obviously you could lie and said it happened after you changed your deductible, but that is up to you and obviously I'd advised you tell the truth.

That's awesome. My glass policy was $0 ded. I didn't even think about comp. So I called my State Farm girl. Dropped my comp from $250 ded to 0 for $1.65 per 6 months. WTF? $0.275 cents per month?!?! I lose that much into couch cushions each month!

Got my window replaced by safe lite it’s a FUYAO windshield. I paid $350. It’s ok I don’t know if it’s any louder inside since I didn’t really pay attention before. It doesn’t seem to fit exactly like the older one. I’ve attached photos. Looks like the upper corners are pulled in more and the rubber side molding is narrower. No whistle though so far. Can’t really tell unless the lighting is perfect and from inside you cannot tell at all.

i had a crack 2500 miles and went to shop that Toyota uses...Asked for OEM and it was $1700 by Pilkington.....so I asked for aftermarket......Came in and I took away black patch.....it was OEM.....they have Toyota etched on it so they have to hide it....was $369.....now have another chip but it is not in direct line of sight or I would replace it....Safelite in my areas was higher with after market and they were a little arrogant....
BTW: Pilkington makes great aircraft windscreens and window.....jury still out on Tacoma windshield

Well it was bothering me too much the top corners are actually a about an 1/8th of an inch lower than the rest of the top which is causing the bow. I called safe lite they are coming out to fix it tomorrow.

Safelite glass may be OK but their scheduling sucks. Mobile installation was more than two weeks out. I made an appointment at the Safelite shop and they wanted me to drop it off and leave it all day, because they had no idea when they could get to it. I asked my dealer who they used and called them. They did a mobile installation the next business day for less than Safelites discounted price.

thats what they told me....sometimes the aftermarket will actually be the OEM with black paint on the toyota etching.....big difference in cost too.....but still, they damage too easily to be Pilkington product unless toyota gave them bad specs to save money
