I took my crankshaft pulley off to replace the seal but can't seem to get it back on all the way. My theory is that I haven't lined up the key on the inside diameter of the pulley with the key on the shaft. Problem is there's no key on the shaft that sticks out and I have no way of seeing where a key might be beyond the seal. Any tips for getting this thing to go on fully?

Also, why does the keyway on this pulley run the entire length if there's no key on the shaft?

There should be a key, it’s probably back in the timing cover?

“Note: The Key notch is very hard to allign since it's inside the crank case. What I did was use an allen wrench as a guide. Also made a mark so I could line up. If done correctly the pulley will start to turn when contacting the case and will eventually slide right on to the knotch. You will know it worked once the pulley stays set.”
