Thought I’d start a thread and share my crash here. Also feel free to add your crash experience on your 1st gens. Pics are good. Videos are better.

    Here is mine:
Was headed back to work after my lunch brake and T boned this Chevy Tahoe. The lady tried to do a U turn and I didn’t have time or room to avoid the collision. At first they pulled off and I did talk to them but they didn’t want to wait for cops to take report so they fled the scene of the crash. Here are some pics and a dash cam recording.

Snorkel looks to be good. Fender definitely took a hit.

Looks like ATF. Trans cooling line into the radiator maybe?

What a fuckwad. That's so sad to see. Glad you're all good and that you recorded it. Hope the Taco is free of major (non-repairable) damage.

Let us know how it pans out.

Crazy deer was running down the middle of the road directly at me. No chance! And my baby was totaled.

The red fluid leaking is coolant.

My 2004 which I miss very much. Had that truck 15 years. Spun out on some black ice last winter. :annoyed:

I would have loved to buy it back, as it was only $2,000, but I don't have space currently. The damage was pretty severe under the hood though. Insurance paid out $8,000 minus the deductible, so I replaced it with a 2004 Tacoma with 80k less miles for $10,000.

I've driven a 1st Gen Tacoma since 2005 and I don't think I'll ever change. I just love these trucks and everything about em!

    how fast were you going?

i had a black ice encounter in early 2oo4 on the I-80 with temps below zero and the high plains winds blowing fierce
it was not a fun experience and no idea really how i survived it at that speed

Definitely. I wish you the best of luck with the adjuster. My jaw dropped when they quoted my damage so hope for the best!

This is off topic a tad but did you get her insurance to pay, if she had any?
BTW a dash camera is a great idea. One more question, what kind of camera are you using and how are you storing the video files?

Damn, that was a nice looking truck. Surprisd how much damage that caused, the Tahoe didn't look too bad. Did he admit fault?

She didn’t have any insurance that’s why they took off before the cops came. Had to open a claim threw my insurance.
I’m using a Rexing dash cam. Mine is an older version of this: https://www.amazon.com/Rexing-Dashboard-Recorder-G-Sensor-Recording/dp/B00X528FNE
I started using it after I was involved in another hit and run but because I had no witnesses and the hit was in the back of the other vehicle it was impossible to prove that I was innocent. Insurance payed out but banned me from driving any company vehicles in the future.
This camera records in 10 min loops. I put a 128gb micro sd card and it’s enough for 3-4 days worth of recording and after that it just writes over it.
