First time Sentry has caught something truly interesting. The car was checked for something (explosives/drugs) by 2 separate search dogs while in Seattle.

I had parked in a nearby garage and when getting out of the vehicle I noticed there was glass everywhere, and not just at the spot I was in, walking down the garage there was glass on the ground in so many spots. Visibility and traffic in the garage was poor, I decided to not leave the car there and moved to another garage. Seattle has a lot of car break-ins compared to the Eastside, I’d much rather have an abundance of security while there vs the opposite.

I definitely try to avoid going there. Bellevue just across the water on the Eastside is far nicer and cleaner. I’d park my Jeep doorless in Bellevue without concern, in Seattle crackheads smash and grabs or cat thefts always give me pause.

Big features in the latest software update, including Apple Music, MyQ garage door support, Zoom, and Track Mode for Model Y Performance.
    https://www.notateslaapp.com/software-updates/version/2022.44.25.1/release-notes

As a user of MyQ, I look forward to the update allowing operation of the garage over Wi-Fi through the touch screen without needing to purchase the HomeLink module. My doors have battery backup, which unfortunately won’t work to send a signal over Wi-Fi if the power is out, so there is still some advantage to the direct signal via HomeLink.

Have you used the MyQ to close the door yet? I wonder as when I use my phone app it beeps so as to warn you it is closing, as opposed to when I use the clicker and it just lowers shut.

Same on my phone. Safety feature as you may not be present when closing the door since you can do it from anywhere.

However, I just saw though that while phone use of MyQ is free, the app in the car will require a subscription for use. I’m not paying a subscription to operate my garage door. So back to using the phone or buying the Tesla HomeLink module upgrade. Even though the HomeLink module costs about double the app subscription for 5 years, it will be a direct interface vs relying on the doors Wi-Fi connection. And it’s the principle of the matter of not supporting subscriptions for something like a garage door.

Installed the 2022.44.25 holiday release that includes upgrades like Apple Music. I was disappointed by the MyQ subscription requirement for the garage door service.

What I did unexpectedly like in the update is the smart auto turn signal option. You can turn the signals on with a hard or soft press of the switch. Hard press will leave the signal on till the steering wheel rotated far enough and then back to disengage the signal like any standard car. Soft tap will activate the signal for 3-4 flashes only then turn off, primarily used for lane changes. The auto signals can be toggled on in the controls lights menu and work in place of the soft tap 3-4 flashes, instead the signal remains on until the car has determined the intended maneuver has been executed and turns it off.
    3FF0067C-63ED-4B79-945D-FC527FD80C50.jpg

With the previous soft tap behavior I’d periodically find myself using it multiple times for a single maneuver. Maybe I was changing lanes and was blocked for example. With the new auto signal behavior I find myself using it for everything and no longer hard tapping the signals.

I have noticed the exterior temperature sensor on the car must be located somewhere with poor exposure to exterior airflow. Driving this morning it started snowing, the cars exterior temp said it was 49 degrees, my watch said it was 33 degrees. The car is parked in a garage heated to the low-mid 50s. It was probably 10 minutes after leaving the garage. Without being exposed to airflow the temperature sensor will take significantly longer to acclimate to the ambient temp. Most cars it the sensor at the front grill opening, so the sensor responds very quickly to temp changes. Surprised Tesla did not do similar (There is a lower grill opening on the bottom front of the car).

Also EV related, spotted my first Rivian delivery van in the wild today. With the heavy start/stop idle in a delivery truck, these make a lot of sense.

Crash did you try the MyQ out? I’m reading that it’s offering a free initial trail, no CC required?

I use it on my phone currently. I scanned the QR code in the Tesla to set it up, saw it was a subscription and bailed. No credit card required though, might as well try it even though I won’t buy it. So I just enabled the trial.

I still don’t have the update but am planning to do the same. Having the MyQ app on the phone is super nice as my commute is currently via bicycle. Being able to cruise right into the garage is the kind of convenience that would make me buy another “smart” garage door again.

Admittedly super convenient with the short cut at the top of the screen and auto open/close setting that I’ll still have to try.

Still won’t pay for it though. I’d love to never carry physical keys and a simple power failure will take this internet and Wi-Fi based system offline requiring keys to enter the house. In the PNW winter storms that cause power failures are a thing. Already happened this year. HomeLink’s direct communication with the opener will work in power failure with my door openers that have Chamberlain battery backup meaning with power or internet failure the car will still be able to open the doors.

For many if not most though the 5yr subscription plan at 1/2 price of the HomeLink system would easily make sense.

Ok, the auto open/close garage door function is pretty sweet. Going to be super easy to get spoiled by this and I’m also sure I’m just going to drive off in my Tacoma and forget to close the garage. The garage door closes without the beeping and flashing that occurs when using the MyQ app on a phone. Chamberlain is going to get a lot of Tesla subscribers after the free trial.

I did notice that my phone is only showing charging at 1kw when it is usually 2kw. I’ve been using a 20A plug in the garage for 16A charging, still haven’t installed my wall charger. However the cars display shows charging at 2kw as expected, and the other charge data matches. Hmm.

Ok, that’s what I was hoping for. Looking forward to trying it out as well.

    EDIT:
What’s your WC install plan? Took me about an hour from main off to main back on putting it directly below the panel. Commissioning the unit was the hardest part :censored:

Ironic timing. I just was looking at this today sent info to some electricians for quotes. I think I have an unused 20A circuit, and a second 20A circuit for an unused baseboard heater I can decommission. I’m hoping this can give me 40A to the charger for 32A charging without significant expense. Bonus if I can add capacity to get the full 60A circuit. Upgrading the panel is crazy expensive, so I’d like to work in the capacity of the current system and get better output than my current 20A garage plug if possible. Fortunately distance from panel to charger is only a few feet on the other side of the wall.

In regards to this specifically, I’ve found that being a part of neighborhood/community groups and posting in those groups about looking for the work to be done/referrals results in interested contractors coming to you with an understanding of the job, instead of you going out and trying to find a contractor willing to take on the project.

I had a high quote of $1200 & a low of $780. With room in my panel and a straight run out the bottom I just opted to diy this last fall. The commissioning was troublesome due to user error on my part. I’m hopeful the WC will find a home in the Tesla App soon like it is in the EU and other places. Being able to pull 48amps is a big plus in my book. How much work do you think it will take to make it work for your panel?
