From Toyota’s website. It’s a sub note from the features page about crawl control. 3D5947B4-1665-4110-B142-6483D56E2D28.jpg

Also notice how it’s the first feature mentioned in the top features. 75521E67-D698-45C1-99EF-0BB91C5EB394.jpg

Update: 2020 Tacoma or dcsb crawl control works because it engages. Functionality is the problem. We recalibrated the system and no new result. The tech told me the abs system controls all of traction control and crawl control as well as the brakes. His words exactly “untill there is an update for the abs system, there isn’t anything we can do about it” . The question is was he just appeasing me or did he actually believe there is a problem? This won’t be the last time they hear from me.

I really do empathize with you guys having this problem...

That said, I noticed something, I had not noticed previously, from the service manual.

I'm luckily not having this problem, but I'd like to point out that even with the manual saying that it shouldn't give Toyota a pass on changing the feature. You could always operate the brakes and accelerator using CC; I'd argue they HAVE to put that in the manual since operating the brakes is pretty important.

To be fair, you won't always want the speed CC is set at. You can accelerate through CC as well.

I'm not saying it absolves them...
I don't think it's working like it should...

It is often said crawl control is off road cruise control. People still use their brake and gas when using cruise control.

I just thought the wording was...interesting. Maybe the system is not, or was never meant to be as autonomous as people expect it to be.

    Interesting
That in the 2016 manual I assume?
As a slight counterpoint, you still do have to use the brake for several reasons regardless if the system works like it used to or not, BUT I have personally NEVER touched the gas pedal with Crawl on (2017).

I really need to go out and apply some gas while in Crawl. I have never actually done that; the times I have used it going up a hill, I certainly didn't feel ANY need to. (I assume the system has a gain even higher than the normal cruise control, and we all know how that is adjusted)

It works. It engages. It just doesn’t have the power the previous models had

I’m sure everyone has seen the video of the Tacoma being sunk in sand and crawling out. My truck won’t do it. It’s not the operator, it’s the equipment. It lacks the rpms. Someone with a 2020 off road with a functional cc system check you rpms during the curb test. I’ll check mine and list in each speed. Also if there is any of y’all in west Texas message me. I have a great place for you to test yours. I’m currently in midland tx.

From the testing I did, the 2020 CC has a throttle limit equal to roughly 2.5% relative throttle position, when it hits that limit with not tire movement the engine is roughly 950 rpm.

You can see my graphs here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/crawl-control-not-working.657481/page-9#post-23519991

First one is my throttle input to climb the obstacle, the second is CC trying, hitting the throttle limit, and giving up and turning itself off.

I just purchased a 2021 tacoma OR and crawl control stopped on a hill. So unfortunate.

i just used my crawl control for the first time on my 2020 TRD OR. went up a 75 meter 15 degree gravel incline and it made it up the entire hill without stopping.

I just tried CC on my driveway apron, its kind of steep, it went up fine, but I will try something steeper and longer to see if my 2021 TRD OR has this issue.

    And, other folks.

    A little cross-linking:

So, how many folks with the CC issue are early 2020 MY builds? If that jives, then you folks should either be screaming for the TSB update or doing some flash fun at home.

Anyone get the new TSB flashes yet and try crawl control in a pre-2020 vehicle? I don't really care if its there or not, but if it is an intentional software thing I would assume that it will be changed for all vehicles with the newest TSBs.

Has anyone tried to mess with the settings in VFTuner to match the pre 2020 functionality?

Can confirm the 04B80 to 04B81 update does not resolve this issue. Same as before, crawl control is still limited to roughly 2.75% relative throttle position. Just like before it just hangs at that throttle position, then gives up and turns off. I used 4x4 lumber front, 2x4 rear. For reference, 2020 built 09/09/2019 in Texas.

Mostly electrical shit that nobody cares about.
Bump for visibility. I've got a 2018 and crawl control speed 1 on uphill pavement is a jerky loud ABS spectacle. The faster speeds are smoother on the ABS but it maintains consistent power up a steep hill as expected and as seen in those "digs itself out of sand" videos.

I'm surprised that this issue has been around for almost a full year (demonstrated by TFLTruck on Nov 19, 2019) and is still unresolved/unacknowledged by Toyota.

Point is that they changed CRAWL control, but they refuse to acknowledge that they changed it. And tbh, it sounds like it's useless now.
