I inherited this car from my wife, and have taken it as my daily driver.

It has 119,300 miles on it as of 8/15/2016

    -UEmjENUS1Bjbn2WjIz05po7Mfj2HsdhkB_E94uP_905749f7d8a6abbb6e519de9724249f79d187982.jpg

My plan is to maintenace it, and that is all. It sees 30 minutes of street drive time M-F, and that's about 14 miles round trip. It sees interstate on weekends.

It is aligned perfectly, wheels balanced, and drives straight as an arrow.

    It has the following items

    • Lifetime Firestone alignment service.
    • Full 3M window Tint all the way around.
    • New Goodyear floor mats
    • New economy seat covers.
    • New dash cover.
    • head rest grab handles.
    • Trunk organizer.
    • 3M door edge protectors
I insulated all the doors using frost king some time in 2015. I wouldn't do it again that way now that I know what I know from working on the Tacoma. But it's in there. :)

That's awesome that you have the Cavalier for a daily driver. I often find myself on Sunday afternoons rushing to put my Tacoma back together so I can drive it to work on Monday.

I installed some really cheap seat covers. They do the trick for this commuter car.

Also installed some grab handles on the head rest stanchions, just like the Tacoma for my kids to pull themselves outta their seats.

I installed a dash mat by Covercraft. It keeps the glare down and protects the dash. I'm quite happy with it.

Some people don't like carpet on the dash, but I like it very much. Got one in the tacoma too.

I cut some sun shades for the front driver and passenger side windows to help keep sun outta the front of the car.

I only use them when parked for very long periods of time, but they really help a lot.

Also give me privacy if I want to take a nap in the car.

Here is what it looks like from the back of the car with the front window shade up.

I had this trunk organizer for years which I gave to my wife and then got back as a result of the car.
It's made by Creekside, bought in 2001, I think. It has a nice velcro bottom so stays put, and has dividers for organizing and what not.

I put my Viair 90P air compressor in it, with tire repair tools, jumper cables, and some emergency stuff that I can't remember right now.

Also has water sprayer, towel and paper towels for cleaning up my kids when they get messy and were away from home.

Also carry 1 Gal of drinking water.

I plan to put together a simple harbor freight toolkit for the car at some point.

On July 15th I had a shop replace a wheel bearing hub assembly on the front drivers side. Car was there for an oil change when they found it.

After the wheel bearing swap, I had the car realigned by Firestone, just because it was time to do so.

Since then car has had a knocking noise that has developed in the front end when turning and reversing direction (maybe LCA). I have not had time to properly diagnose it. But I have crawled over the car and decided to replace some stuff as proactive maintenance.

EDIT: I think the god damned noise is a strut mount bearing. Monroe quick struts went in March of 2015, so maybe one of them went bad. I now know how to diagnose, so need to spend some time checking it out. Lifetime warranty, so hopefully easy to take care of. 8-22-2016

This is a lot cheaper than taking on a new car payment, plus I like wrenching a lot.

Here is what's on deck for this car.

    • New ACDelco wheel bearing hub assembly, for passenger side, just because $103
    • New ACDelco Inner tie rods $12 each
    • New ACDelco Outter tie rods $15 each
    • New ACDelco Professional Complete Lower Control Arms, $55 each
    • New ACDelco Sway bar bushings for end links $10
    • New ACDelco Brake Rotors, $21 each
    • New ACDelco Brake Pad front kit $18
    • New Moog Sway bar bushing kit $12
    • New Anchor Engine Mount (motor mount) $42
    • New DEA Transmission mount $18
    • New DEA Front Engine Torque Strut Mount $13

    v0uyy1Yt5NZ8TBsVHXKIBRnpeQ0pu0YMYiXJfqLh_0dac45db1d5b7c78023bedc5c994be5338b32faf.jpg

So basically rebuild the whole front end except axles.

That's why this car must remain stock. lol Just a maintenance, and B.S thread.

Car is gonna run great after this, I'll probably swap in new spark plugs too, I get four for $16, they are ACDelco too, Iridium good for 100K miles, they say. Current plugs I replaced 5 years and 50K ago.
