    Hi all,

Does anyone know if a truck cap marketed or listed for another model truck fits our Tacomas?

i.e. Could a cap for a canyon or Colorado fit a taco?

I'm hunting for a good deal and would even be willing to paint, but they seem to command a high resale value.

I owned a full size Silverado prior to my tacoma and bought a color matched cap for $60! Can't seem to find anything under $800 for these things.

I'm pretty sure that even if the length matches, bed widths vary by model and even from front to back. Let's say you get that far and have one that fits over your bed, then there are usually specific "feet" or moulding along the bottom that fit your model. And then the height, and brake light...

Best to be patient and find the right one. A buddy of mine has a first-gen Access Cab with a Ranger cap on it, and it seems to work fine, but the old days of standardized bed dimensions are over, and with the way the newer trucks' beds are tapered, I doubt you're going to find something that cross-fits convincingly. I was having a hard time finding a cap for my 2003 DC on craigslist, but managed to score a good deal by talking a guy who was selling his truck into selling the cap by itself. Might be worth giving that approach a try.

    Yup...

I looked for about a year before I found my deal... Paid $700, but matched my color and was in perfect condition.

Not magic, but what I did since there were so few available, was I started looking for people selling Tacomo's in my year range on CL that had shells, and made them offers.
