Thanks man! it was definitely a huge improvement over stock. one of my friends who race says that it handles like it has 20 in of travel! up next is deavers and bumps!

 

I'm going to do the same thing to my 98 and was also wondering about the air bumps? How would you mount them on a first gen since the leaf pack is setting directly under the frame? On the 2nd gens they just mount them on the side of the frame cause the leaf pack isn't directly under the frame. I've searched and asked on the mid travel thread but the post was just ignored or no one knew.

 

Mine are also ran under the frame, this is how i am going to run mine

 

How exactly are you going to run the bumps?

Did that help shed any light? this is the same setup im also doing on my truck. also it can help to drill 3 1/2 inch holes in your stock bumpstops in a triangle formation ( 1 on top 2 below) This will help smoothen the harshness of the bumps.

 

Ya man thanks! I'm doing a u bolt flip so I guess I could just weld a strike plate on the side of it so the air bumps can hit that. My stock bumpstops are gone, so its either this or buy some cheap ones on Amazon and mount them under the frame.

 

yea man you definitely need bumpstops! what bumps where you thinking of installing

 

I don't know yet, I would like to do air bumps if I find some cheap, what travel are you suppose to run? or is it just a 4 inch travel is better than a 2 inch travel?

 

Sorry for the late reply. But it's just how much of your travel to contact the bumpstop! The Tacoma has about 4.5" up travel so you don't want really 4 inches then you'd only have about .5" of regular travel so I'm,going to run about 2.5 inches to help slow it down

You mocked it up using flat stock leafs?

 

Yes but I used the geometry from a set of deavers, I don't have cash right now or leafs and these get the job done right now. Geometry between flat stock leafs and brand new deavers aren't very different besides ride height and the amount of droop

what are your wheel specs? looks like you have a ton of space back there. Enough for a 2.5" shock it seems.

Any pictures of the shock/tire relation when flexed out?
