Have a 2000 Tacoma 4x4 TRD, 3.4, 5spd, just turned 140k. Just bought the truck 2 months ago and the cruise control hasn't worked since I got it. The light comes on in the dash, but does not engage. Have held the paddle down patiently and have tried everything. I know that the switch is under the brake, but just wanted some input or how-to advice to fix this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated, no cruise is driving me nuts...

I would check your clutch first. You know the springs get weak/break and all that junk and before that actually happens the first thing is it starts to slack. When it does it contacts the clutch switch (which won't let the CC activate).

Try setting the cruise while pulling up on the back of the clutch pedal with your left foot. If it holds then, than you have found your problem. Fix your clutch pedal return spring, remove it or add an aftermarket one. Either way get it off that switch!
