i just heard that cummins was releasing a 4 cylinder 2.8 liter turbo diesel crate engine... am I the only one whose dreamed of putting a cummins in our tacomas? I know there's company's out there that will put toyotas D4-D Diesel engine in it as well. Has anyone attempted this or planning on swapping for the cummins?

Well with the fuel savings alone it should pay for itself...at some point.

I think that's dieseltoys that will install the D4-D, they basically give you all new mechanicals on your body. With the cummins, I don't see why any shop that does engine swaps wouldn't be able to do it. The D4-D has to be imported from a downer car in Japan

Too many to list. Tuning would be 1. Cost is another. No real benefit v. cost is 3. Spending $20k plus on an engine in a truck worth 20k is another though..

The cummins is going to cost around 5k. I don't see install costing more than a couple grand. Benefit, power, fuel savings, cool factor etc

I've wanted to put a 4bt into my truck, something for the future. You can find 4bt's in all sorts of vehicles in junk yards for around 1k. You'd probably want to rebuild it though.

Ditto. I think it would pretty much be like a mini tank with one

Same. When I saw it I immediately checked on the cummins website for info about installing one into a tacoma since next to keeps, the tacoma and 4Runner is not me of the top modified trucks out there but they haven't posted anything about putting them in a tacoma yet. Just the wrangler

Yea I've seen a bunch of YouTube videos of guys that put the vw engines or the Mercedes engines in our trucks with success and they run like a top. Just the thinking it might be an option for when our trucks die and if the body isn't rusted out, it would be cheaper than buying a new truck. I plan on running mine until the wheels fall off
