From what I gather the affect is completely different with no ill effects. It's only the autos that will have issues. Coast to your hearts content!

i know efficiency is not new, that was the point of fuel injection along with more control.also i did a little research on this subject.i have found that the feul does not completely shut off.which makes sense if the engine is free wheeling it does not create vacum which would effect braking.the pulse width of the injector is reduced until i reaches the set rpm before stall.if you hook a scan tool up to your truck take it for a drive and let off the pulse width of the injector will not go to zero.

Good info, so fuel does not completely shut off, but it is still less than at idle (like when you shift into neutral)

If you coast in "N" with an auto trans. doesn't this also prevent the odometer from continuing to rack up miles? Correct me if I'm wrong please, but I believe the odometer reading stops moving with the tranny in "neutral."

I dont think the ODO would stop counting. You are still getting a speedo reading so I would assume the ODO is still counting

Ok thanks dgerm. I thought maybe it ran off of a geared sensor like some older auto trannys I've seen and maybe taking it out of drive disengaged the sensor as well.
