After getting tired of my phone falling out of the Scosche magnetic vent mount, and having to plug in everytime, I purchased this Course Motorsports dash mount and wireless charger from the TW marketplace. Unfortunately, the wireless charger didn't sit right (angled too high). I could have added an extension to the bolt (as seen here), but the phone would still be blocking the screen.

    Parts:
    https://coursemotorsports.com/collections/toyota/products/toyota-direct-fit-magnetic-phone-mount
    https://coursemotorsports.com/colle...torsports-autogrip-wireless-induction-charger

Tear into the dash by pulling off the head unit bezel from Right to Left, cut a slit in the dash surround with a utility knife, so it will accommodate moving the phone mount to the left. Drill a hole in the plastic for the new dash mount bolt. I could only cut so far, otherwise the mount would conflict with the bezel piece above:

Hack up a piece of aluminum stock, and test fit it in the hole:

Mount the CM phone mount behind the aluminum stock, and bend the crap out of it to fit as far forward as possible. Note, I added locktight and a thick tapered aluminum washer to push the ball further out. I also added double sided tape to the dash, and soft velcro to the underside of the mount where it touches the bezel. The tab on the headunit was bent forward to makeup for the thickness of the aluminum bracket:

Soft velcro to the back of the wireless charger:

Route the USB-C chord from the high speed charger into the glovebox, and out of the air vent:

    Pictures of the final install:

GIF of the automatic wireless charger:

Final thoughts, I'm not so proud of the bent metal bracket (or this mod in general), but not sure what else I can do besides hammering it out and re-painting. I'd also like to hide the exposed USB chords, so I'll likley install a dedicated USB outlet in the glovebox, and come up with something to free up my vent..

To the folks @CourseMotorsports , you might consider making a bracket like @Two Yutes did here, and, also, maybe test fit the wireless charging head on the Tacoma dash mount.

Thanks for watching! :hattip:And now, back to your regularly scheduled thread...

This is actually really cool. I took my mount off for the time being and had intended to sell it, as the magnet that was required to hold the phone up essentially killed wireless charging. Not the biggest upset, but I enjoy the wireless charger at my desk.

This post has me rethinking my decision, especially if that automatic holder fits into the ball mount!

My initial worry with your cable in the air vent was it overheating in the wintertime if you need the heat on high.

Appreciate the thread, definitely will be watching to see what you do to improve it!

Why not just use the Taco Garage DMM system instead

DMM is sold out for now, but my hesitation to use that has been the fact that you need to drill into the dash. I liked the CourseMS option since it didn't need any drilling. YMMV tho

I personally already bought this product because I thought it was going to be plug and play, which it was not. The wireless charging head does not fit properly on the phone mount (in the Tacoma), and the combination of the two blocks the info screen. As @Pantone2718 said, they're all sold out. I guess I could try a combination of the and the Course Motorsports wireless charging head, but I would need to experiment with balls, and extensions. I'd need to find a 1" ball extension to a 17 mm ball. :notsure: Or, find a different wireless charging head. I've no use for the additional screen mounting locations, as I don't want my dash to be cluttered.

Good point about the charging cable getting hot. I'll keep an eye on it, and update this thread as I make the necessary improvements. For now, this works!

I just got this mount with the wireless dock and I like it, kinda bummed you can’t adjust it much but it looks OEM and charges faster than the wireless pad in the truck.

Nice. I see you have an aftermarket headunit, so the charger is not blocking the screen as much. Does your charger sit vertical? Or, is it at an angle? I can't tell unless you happen to have a side shot. Also, I like what you did with your cable. I might have to try that.

    Thanks!

The charger sits at an incline, I wish it were vertical. It’s not that bad though because it cuts down on glare. I bought some extension bolts on eBay to see if I can mod it so that the phone sits further away from the dash to get it more vertical. The phone seems snug though, I haven’t taken it off road or anything but I don’t think the phone is falling out due to vibration or bumps

When you say the charger sits at an incline, do you mean the charger is angled down? Has anyone tried the CM wireless charger for iPhone 12s? It looks like a clean setup?
