I've stood on it with no problems. I weigh in around 195. For the trip below I probably had about 100 lbs loaded up there. It's solid despite the lightweight materials.

I want to say it was 1/4 20 but I'm not positive. Its not installed at the moment, so I'll measure the threads for you a little later. I wouldn't bother getting the hardware before you get the rack built though. I had 3 different sizes (length) the way I did it. Up to you though.

i have the top and the bottom perimeter or base done all i need to do is to set the height between the base and the top part and the distance between the base and the roof. im making it out of 1/2 inch conduit (cheaper) for now to learn and perfect it and make sure i like the way it looks.

Thanks. Here's the only pics I could find. Some are in process shots. Please excuse the crappy looking welds... that galvanized shit is tough (or maybe I just suck). I found some rubber insert/washer things at the hardware store that fit up in the tube great and stick to keep from scratching the paint off the mounts. It's pretty simplistic, but it works.

And in case it isn't clear, there are nuts welded to the underside of the mounts so you can just drop a screw down through the rack and tighten it down. The mounts stay on the truck all the time, but they're so low profile they are virtually invisible.

Hot damn that's a great idea! I've been racking my brain for mounting options and what will give me the most support. I notice you have 3 supports on each side so how did you do the middle ones?

Got a few questions. What welder did you use? I have never welded in my life. My stepdad says you cannot weld this stuff as its not regular steel and isnt strong enough. Also, I think the hardest part for me will be lining up the mounts with the frame. What's the best way of tackling that?
