CV axles keep breaking and I don’t know how to mitigate it. I have a 3.5 inch suspension lift

O have a 3" lift and 33's one boot has been torn for years. I'm at 200k.

My cv axles are fine somehow. I wonder what else is going on with your geometry

315 is tread width, what's tour tire height?

It’s just the boots that have torn on the cv axles. I haven’t had an issue with the actual cv axle itself. Might have to just let it ride with torn boots until something happens to the actual axle

this was my first Tacoma that I was able to do any kind of modification to. I didn’t know RC lifts were cheap until I had it on and others were telling me…

    generally a 315 is a 34-35" tire.

I don't want to speak for @la0d0g but I believe the point he was making is that a 35" tire will fit with a mild lift and some clearance work in the wheel well.

Just FYI - you didn't do anything to increase the performance of the truck. It has a fixed amount of travel - both up and down of about 8" I think. It used to sit in the middle (roughly). Now with your lift, you have put the truck at rest near the very top of the travel so as you go over a bump and the wheel is in the air, it only has about 1/2" of down-travel before it bottoms out the shock.

If you hit a big enough wash, drainage, etc to be able to compress the suspension enough, your 33" tires will rub and catch things still. You did nothing to address this. So with everyone mentioning that you can fit a 35" with minimal trimming this is what they are talking about. You will need to actually do some work to plastic and maybe metal to make the 33" tires clear without your excessive lift.

Your truck is fine, just do the long boot modification on the axles.

Essentially you'd just need new coilovers as those are non adjustable. The cheapest fix would be to the just reboot your cv's and do a boot slide while you got em open. This is assuming you can do the work yourself.

Pardon my ignorance, this is first I've heard of this and I have about 3" of lift, but what is a boot slide and what is long boot? Long boot sounds like you can get longer boots of course, but from where?

Boot slide mod creates bigger gaps between the fins on your cv axles reducing rubbing friction which is one of the main causes of torn boots. Not really worth the trouble unless your boots are already torn
