EDIT #2: Meets scheduled for 7/2 in Fremont, 7/17 in Sacramento, and 7/25 in Union City. Even if one of those dates don't work for you I can still put you on the list and you'll get the group pricing.

EDIT: $200 for a tune from @chanvchau and you can schedule at your convenience. All you have to do is reply to this thread or send me a PM and I’ll get you on the list to lock in the pricing.

Hi all, I know a similar thread was started by LeFreakyBone about getting the KDMax tune through SubaruTheTacoma and I've already reached out to LeFreakyBone prior to starting this thread.

I reached out to chanxchau since he's a Bay Area local and his CVC seems to be well regarded. Based on our conversation I decided to see if I can organize a group buy for Tacoma World members. Chan agreed that if we could get 8 people on board he would give us a great discount with a price of $200 per tune. For the Norcal guys its nice to have someone like Chan that's local do the tune because he offers free reflashes (in case you change your mind/Toyota unknowingly overwrites it/you change gears/tire sizes/etc.)

As far as scheduling, we were looking at the following weekends: 6/26-6/27, 7/3-7/4, or 7/24-7/25. The tune takes about 10 minutes but Chan said its best to create 20 min blocks so people can ask questions, he can process payment, update tsb if necessary, etc. I figured the first tune can start at 9:30 for the guys that want to get it done early and for 9 tunes the last tune should be done by 12:30pm (unless there's more people interested of course). As far as location, it's tentatively planned for Union Landing in Hayward as that's within 30-40 minutes of most of the big Bay Area cities.

If you're interested, reply to this thread and let me know which tune you want, which days you're available (6/29, 6/30, 7/3, 7/4, 7/24, 7/25), and if you want to be one of the earlier times (I'll try to accommodate those requests but obviously not everyone can be the 9:30 or 9:50 tune). Feel free to post here or PM me if you have any questions/comments/concerns.

For the June dates, 26th and 27th? 29th and 30th are weekdays so I just wanted to double check. Any weekend besides July 24/25 would work for me

@BalutTaco what did you pay the first time? $200 or $250 with AGM still seems like a great price but I'm pretty new here

    All of them.
I'd go for a retune. Changed to 35s since last tune and it's definitely in need.

And did that include adjustments for an AGM battery? How long ago was this? I thought CVC's price was $250 but when we spoke he said it's now $300. At this time, I don't think the $200 group buy price can be beat. Care to share your thoughts on the CVC tune with those of us that are looking to get it?

I got his tune last year in Nov. He didn't have the AGM tune back then. He only had 1 rig that tested the AGM tune. I don't have the CVC tune yet. Gotta go back for a reTune. I just heard the CVC is better than his original tune.

Seems like a good deal but no way can I make a weekend unless it was late evening.
If you do a Friday I would be in.If it was closer to Santa Cruz would have at least one other person.

As someone who used to work weekends I know how you feel. We chose weekends and the Hayward area to try to appeal to the greatest amount of people. Would it be possible for you to have a spouse/friend/sibling bring your truck for the tune? I would be hesitant to ask someone myself but it might be worth the $100 savings and they could be in and out in 20 minutes minus the drive.

Was looking into the OVTune. Is this tune similar/better/same?? I would definitely be interested. Later weekend in July would probably work best for me.

I dmd Chan on IG trying to see when he’ll be in Sac. My cousin, friend, and I all live here and want a tune.

If it falls through I may be down for this meet

The consensus on TW seems to be it’s better. You can choose between the KDMax tune or CVC tune. Let me know if you’d like me to add you to the list.

@ToYoda4x4 I am interested for the 7/24, 7/25 dates as I am camping those other dates. Can you tell me the differences between the KDMax tune and the CVC tune? I have read up on the KDMax tune and was considering the light throttle tip in, I am also interested in gear lock in S-mode for towing. What does the KDMax vs CVC do with the ECT button? I saw a vid of one tune that the ECT bumped up the redline. I drive pretty conservatively, but would appreciate more throttle response. Also I tow a 3,500 lb trailer up into the high sierras. I have the stock tire size now, but plan to go to either 265/75R16 (31.7") or possibly 255/85R16 (skinny 33s) but I am concerned the 33s will rob too much torque for towing. I don't really want to do a re-gear for 33s so I was hoping a tune would make up the losses from the larger tires. I did recently get the TSB-0092-20 for the transmission and it has made a big difference. The truck will now tow on the flat, at 60, in S5, without downshifting at the slightest breeze or hump, and averaging 16 mpg. S4 pulls most hills except steep mountain passes where it needs 3rd off and on to keep the speed at 55. @chanvchau anything you can do to help me choose would be appreciated.

@CemenTRDgen hopefully CVC can answer your questions as I’m not an expert and don’t want to provide inaccurate information. I will say that in talking to CVC the good thing is that he’s not pushy with his tune which is why he informed me clients could also chose to get the KDMax if that’s what they prefer. I’ll add you to the list.
