I have a 2006 Tacoma with 380,000+ miles. I love this truck more than my wife and more than at least two of my kids. It is having all the symptoms discussed above. A trusted mechanic has done the compression test with no problems. Replaced all spark plugs. The catalytic converter has been replaced twice, the coil for cylinder 6 was replaced then when the error code and misfiring continued my mechanic moved it from cylinder 6 to cylinder 4 to see if the code followed the coil. Then error codes came back for cylinders 6 AND 4. My trusted mechanic is telling me I need a new engine. Depending on the price, I'll probably enter a period of mourning and get a new Tacoma rather than replace the engine. Is there anything else I haven't tried, other than a new engine, that might resurrect my dear friend? When answering please keep in mind I am not a mechanic and my knowledge is limited, but I know how to pay one.

Hey, I'll take a taco...If your mechanic can't find the problem, Why does he think a new engine will fix it??? Find a mechanic that can find the problem & what is needed to fix it. Then decide if it's worth fixing. If problem is a loose connection somewhere, a new factor eng. will not fix it... Also welcome to the site, a lot to learn around here when you get it all figured out. You'd probably get better response starting a new thread than trying to renew... Oh yeah, keep us updated, hopefully not as bad as you think.
