D-Ring Shackle in stock recovery point?

    My 2014 TRD sport has a loop in the front on the passenger side which I understand can be used as a tow point. Does anyone know if a 3/4" D-ring shackle can be put through this stock loop as a solid/safe recovery point? I see some members selling mounting brackets for this purpose and was wondering if there was a reason nobody seems to just put a shackle in the factory loop. Thanks.

    A little a this, a little a that...
    A d ring won't line up properly there. You might be able to get one in there but the orientation would have the strap yanking from the side of the d ring instead of straight on, which could bend the ring such that you couldn't take it off.

    The opening is too small for a 5/8 shackle. I filed it out a little so it will fit. See pics below. I have been recovered twice from this point without issue.

    Why not spend the extra money for a TRD tow hook? That's what I did. I had a hard time finding a shackle that would fit so I gave up and got the hook. It's a lot more beefy and isn't the stock D ring a tie down point for towing?

    ^^^This is truth. This is the tie down point. I happened to have a 15,000lb tow hook laying around and the holes lined up perfectly with the holes for the tie down point.

    I don't trust those types of hooks for recovery purposes. They can snap and go flying and hit something or someone.

    I bought a sos replacement, haven't installed it yet. I'm not impressed with it at all, unpainted, hole for shackle pin is 1", should be 3/4", holes for mounting are rough, plasma cut not milled. Anybody want it, pay for shipping and $20.00, its yours. I think I,m going to look for something else, maybe just drill out the stock one, or a trd one.
