    My 2cents

I do hear 245/65/17s look pretty killer with LT though. Might want to go that route

If you go 35's you'll regret not going 37's for size.. If you go 37's you'll regret not going 35's for rubbing issues.. So you choose.

I prefer 37s over 35s. It's a lot of work but after you do it you will not regret it.

If you get 37's then the next OBVIOUS step is to sell the LT and call up Fabtech to order a drop bracket.

Don't be a bro, Bro. Next you'll be ordering 20" Rockstar wheels and tow mirrors.

    I voted 4.88s & 35s and here's why:

Not an expert on 2nd gen gearing, but I'd go 4.88s no matter tire size. I can live with higher RPM on the highway with how little I drive at those speeds, if you wheel, not much point in regearing only to get back close to stock IMO.

As far as tire size goes, ask yourself if you really need 37s. I see so many people build up a truck not knowing what it is capable of in current form, or not using in to its full potential in the new one. I've wheeled the piss out of my rig on 255/85s and now 295/75 the last couple years, and every time I go out the truck gets more capable as I improve as a driver. Even on just 33s and a rear locker, up until recently, the truck has been more capable than I have been as a driver.

Go with 35s, it's easier on the truck, wheel the piss out of it, learn what it's capable of, and let me know when you honestly find an obstacle where the 2" larger tire would actually make a difference.

I completely agree. Only thing is I've read that with a manual, and 35's, 4.56 is almost over geared already so not sure why you'd want to go 4.88 if thats the case. Also its your DD and heading up to snoqualmie won't be fun at 4.5k rpm. So I voted 35's and 4.56

I did preface that by saying I don't know a lot about 2nd gen gearing, but it won't be that high. Not a lot of difference between the two.

-Say you have a starting point of 2500 rpm at 70 (complete and total guess, but the rest of the math still works).

-stock 31" to 35" tires, multiply by pi to get circumference, equals a 13.4% increase, or drop in RPM

-stock 3.83 to 4.88s equals a 27.4% increase, so increase of RPM

    -Overall that's a 14% increase, or 2850 RPM

-Do the same with 4.56, and you get a 5% increase, or 2625 RPM

Highway RPM difference is 225 rpm, I'd say that's worth it to be better offroad. And more fun around town too.

*these calculations are based on a lot of assumptions and I don't guarantee them to be anywhere near accurate. That being said, they still explain the relatively small difference between gearing.

I'm running 4.56's on 285's right now and it pretty much sucks driving over 55 mph (freeway driving). The 6 speed's 6th gear is just too low for me to stay on 285's for much longer. I have some 315's on order and can't wait for them to get here. It's awesome in low range and crawls like a beast though. To me, it just doesn't feel healthy for the engine to be reving at that high of an rpm for long periods when on the freeway.

If you don't mind that, you should go with the 4.88's because you'll probably like it better when wheeling.

Oh no I didn't mean that to you specifically, but just curious why you would in general.
But that does make more sense, just me personally I wouldn't want my engine turning that fast at highway speeds.

Yeah, you guys must be way different. I wish I was over 3K RPM on the highway. If I was at 3.5K in 5th, 4th would make a good passing/climbing gear. As it is, I run 3rd a lot in the mountains, but don't mind pulling 4K RPM up a pass for 15 minutes straight.
