Well I parked my truck last night around 6:30 to go to my friend's house for his son's 2nd birthday. He lives in an apartment complex about 10 min from my house in a very nice area. Well I get there with my gf.. park.. go inside and leave around 11:45. I get in my truck.. first thing i notice is my iPod wire hanging on the floor and the ipod no longer attached... so I think crap there goes an iPod. Start lookin around, also missing is a garage door opener and a cheap pocket knife and a half empty pack of gum. Most important things missing were registration and insurance card.

All the stuff was sitting in plain veiw (i'm dumb i know). I could have sworn i locked my truck, I do everywhere i go, i guess i just forgot to hit the button as i walked inside.

When i got there I noticed a bunch of kids hanging around outside (17-19 years old i guess) They're always around and I know the one kid is dealing out of his house there. So anyway...

Go to the state police barracks down the road (no local cops serve my township) File a report and said they would check out the kids that were outside and go to their house. So not expecting much to come of that...

All i did was put a padlock on my garage door and slept next to a rifle in case they showed up (having my addy from reg)

    off rant...

Damn man that sucks, I have a problem too in remembering whether or not i locked my truck. But what really makes it worse is i work at a prison and the trustee's can walk around outside the fence when they are doing lawn work and other stuff. I always have to double check to make sure i locked my truck knowing convicted felons might be walking around it while im not there.

Just a thought, but I doubt most teenagers would think to steal your insurance or registration like that.

There should be a procedure for clearing the remote codes on your garage door opener. I would do that ASAP. I did that to the opener at the last house I was renting and my new house after I bought it. Never know who has an extra remote. The you can buy a new remote and reprogram it and any other remotes would be useless. Also I recommend putting up some cheap security cameras by your garage and back gate. You can usually find some for around $100-$130 for a pair. well worth the money.

That sucks. Do what others have said and take the necessary precautions.

This was an absolutely pointless post. The man is pissed off, deal with it. He's obviously not talking about EVERY KID.

Sorry to hear about the theft. Darn punks... go get a job and buy your own stuff.

If you can't get the opener code cleared, just unplug the unit until you get a chance to get a new remote.

That sucks. I'm always paranoid about locking my doors too. I always end up hitting the remote about 6 times just to make sure I locked it. Especially since I'm on a college campus. And it's a good thing, because a convicted felon broke free from police and ran onto campus last week. He has stolen a wal mart truck and a country singer's tour bus, so you KNOW he wouldn't have been able to resist stealing a Taco.
