I agree wholeheartedly. I hate politicians legislating what is required to be "safe" in a vehicle. Especially things like this that any responsible driver should do on a regular basis anyway.

But since I never seem to keep stock wheels, I just want to prevent getting blindsided by the dealer for $1000 if I take the truck in for something and they notice that the TPMS is defeated and they refuse to release the truck. That and I would hate the light being on constantly.

Is it possible to dissable for other years then the 06 without cutting wires, removing lights, or the silly tank trick? Just unplugging the module won't kill the light?

Just had mine in today for an alignment (and they replaced the centering pins in my rear leaves since they snapped off, thus the alignment requirement) and a NY State inspection (safety equipment and emissions testing). Passed with flying colors. If anything was gonna tripped up by this damn TPMS being broken it would be this retarded inspection. So I'd have to say you're fine..... For now. Last I heard this was supposed to rolled out industry wide in a few years. Toyota just started putting it in their vehicles ahead of time. If that comes to pass then you might have an issue, but then that's for us US people. Not sure about you Canadians. Might have your own issues to deal with.

    There are mods:

    - Own an 2005 - models didn't have it...lucky
    - 06's you could splice into a wire behind the glove box to fool the system. That was documented over @ TN but the pics were lost when the OP got rid of his tacoma & cleared out his photobucket
    - others have made a pressurized pvc pipe with sensors in it, or stuck em in the spare, or used a wheel barrow tire
    - some sensors can be re-used in different rims with an adapter kit or rotating the sensor at a different angle & mounting the tire on the rim in a certain manor. Search TPMS may turn up that thread

Right now I am running no sensors in my oem alloy wheels (2006) except for the one in the spare. My sensors are mounted on steel rims/winter tires in my garage. It has yet to throw a light in a week driving all over the place.
I suspect that when I drive a certain distance away (like tomorrow when I am going out of town), the light will illuminate. That is what it use to do on my tundra when I had sensors in storage. But once home in the driveway it would reset overnight.

What rims do you have alloy or steel?

I have steel 16" wheels & tires that I just took off and put in the garage. I have mounted 17" alloy wheels & tires. Just did it this morning and drove from the tire shop home with tires in back of truck and put them in garage for the winter and have not yet driven the truck anywhere else.

Do you have the tire light on your odometer or no light?
I'm doing the same thing & am not going to worry about it.

ill tell you a real simple way to stop the TPMS from flashing.
you take a peice of 3" pvc pipe about 4 inches long, cap one end of it and fit the other end with a screw off cap. then on the capped end install a schrader valve.
take all 4 TPM sensors from all 4 wheels and throw them in the container, cap it and air it up to 32 psi and reset the tmps light. just leave the thing in the rear cargo area and it will never give you any problems again.
i havnt done this but several people who have Lexus vehicles with aftermarket rims have done it successfully.

 uhh no, there is a 100,000 mile long wire from each wheel that comes out of the inside of the rim and gets wound around all 4 axels as you drive.. :smack:

I find these things to be utterly worthless and am going to leave them out when I put my FJ rims on

    Awww....com'on now...Play nice.

Yes, you can move them between different sets of rims...There may be some fitment issues are there are at least two types of sensors (steel wheel and Alloy)

The ones in my mom's 2004 Rav4 are not wireless. It's linked to the ABS somehow and senses wheel rotation/balance. Damn thing gets thrown off by mud in the tread, ice on the rims, or worn tires. Biggest pain in the ass I've ever seen.

i just had to replace three of these tpms recently....atleast they only charged me for the sensors and no reprogramming charge. the thing that pissed me off was the tech told me that these things only have a limited lifespan in salty conditions (road salt).....i will do the damn pipe bomb mod next if i have to replace anymore of these! i already gave up two arms and a leg to pay for 3, if i have to replace 2 more....

I like my TPMS. It has warned me several times of low pressure when it was to dark to do the eyeball test.

Ok I know about the pipe bomb thing with the sensors but I was told that if you put the sensors in the new set and just hold the tpms button in the cab down it will reset. My question is this, does this reset the system back to the 32 psi level or does it reset the system to the pressure in the tires at that time that you reset it?
