How did I put myself in a bad situation? By owning an older toyota pickup?

Where does the GF live? Were you concerned where you parked it? How long was it left unattended? Did you have an alarm, or parked near an lighted area, where people are present? Was it in a garage? Was video taping in process when the vehicle was left unattended?
Dude the real world would have swollowed your pickup whole, you got off lucky with missing a cat. Unless your GF lives in TJ, you got off pretty good for parking in a bad area, obviously they felt confortable climbing under your truck, unbolting one side of the cat (rusty ass bolts BTW), then using a loud ass sawall to compleate the job.

I don't understand. His exhaust in the picture looks pretty clean and rust free. Sawzall should cut through the exhaust pipe pretty quick too.

It was out in the Sunset of San Francisco, not a terrible place. But by no means "nice". The odd thing was, i got an awesome spot literally in front of her house. So I felt as comfortable as i could with it being in SF. No alarm, but yeah those streets are lit up pretty good. And unlike the stories I have heard, they used a pipe cutter not a sawzall.

Is there any reasonably priced alarm that would have stopped this? I mean they didn't have to enter my vehicle, or really do much to it other than remove 2 bolts and spin a pipe cutter around. I guess it all depends on how sensitive you make it? I have never dealt with after market alarms before so I'm not sure what it would have done here.

I really don't understand your logic... IT HAPPENED!
Facts are: CAT was unbolted, and was cut with a saw from the exhaust pipe.
Whoever did this felt comfortable in the said act. Dark, no one around, and noise wasnt an issue. Call it misfortune, call it stupidity, but the CAT is missing because of the location of the vehicle?
Sucks but true, just being real here.

Are you mad brah? When did he say the location of the vehicle was the reason the cat was stolen? He just said he was at his gf's house. You sir need to relax.

What do you mean my logic? I just asked a question about alarms while replying to your statement that makes it seem like I should be lucky just my cat was stolen because I seemingly left it in the darkest ally of hunters point for a month with the keys lying on the hood.

I understand that it happened and that I also could have lost my whole truck, not trying to argue that point.

Jerry, how much do you think a couple sheets of the flat stock would be? I'm considering making my own skids.

I full 4'x8' sheet of 3/16th plate I can get for around 200.00 but you don't need that much you would be fine with a 1/2" sheet I can check my prices if you want.
