Finally had some free time and got around to finishing the install of the head unit. The original CANBUS wiring harness that came with the unit was stripped and the replacement harness from Iris is still on the slow boat from China. In the mean time, I was able to "source" another CANBUS wiring harness.

I also took out the surround trim and painted it blank. The sanding was a BEETCH :mad:but I'm happy with the way it turned out. I used semi-gloss black instead of the matte. Initially I tried the matte but scratches showed up easier compared to the semi-gloss.

I was able to eye-ball the original metal bracket and drill the appropriate holes to match with the Dasaita unit. Along with the clips the new HU feels nice and secure.

I have the rear-view reverse camera on my 09 PreRunner. Using a few guides on TW, I was able to tap the reverse wire and the reverse video output. I used T wire taps I found on Amazon and used a left over video cable. When I switch to reverse both my rear-view mirror and the HU come on. The picture quality sucks but its better than nothing.

I have not found a harness/adapter to connect to the 8-pin AUX so currently my OEM AUX port does not work. Once I find an adapter I'll revisit fixing the AUX port.

Now I have to update and get to customizing the head unit. :D

I had done the anytime back up before and likely similar setup. The anytime doesn’t work on the radio but still does on mirror. like you said image sucks. Too high res for the low res stock camera.

OK, probably not my last question. Perused the User Manual a few times now but is there a specific use for the dual USB terminals??? Waiting on my extension for the stock Tacoma one but believe there was a specific use for these. I Dremeled out a cover for my last empty slot and used some JB Weld to install it below the air con controls. Not the most elegant work (picture is worse than they actually look) but they are solidly mounted and hated the idea of putting them in the glove box.

I believe they're just USB ports, nothing specific. I wired up all of my USB's so now I have 3 total.

Been perusing a lot of YouTube for Dasaita install videos and I found this one although it is not a Tacoma it did have some good video of how he installed the wiring harness (unfortunately there is a lack of 2nd gen installs). At 13:47 he connects RCA plugs for his rear view camera. Is this something I need to do for my Tacoma? Kind of was under impression the CANBUS does this but now not so sure.

The kit comes with wiring harness labeled (AUX) that gets plugged into the back of the head unit. One of the yellow RCA headers is marked "CAM IN". You need to tape into your reverse camera feed and connect it to the CAM IN RCA header.

If you don't have the rear camera video on the rear-view mirror I believe you need a 12v => 6v converter.

The canbus does do this. If you did not have a factory one or did not get the can bus then Likely hooking up an after market camera

Yah basically just xtra USB ports. I do not have my extra 2 hooked up. I barely use the factory one.

Came out good! Now all you need to do is the black climate control swap so everything will match :)

Yeah. Thanks for the encouragement. I know some have painted the A/C controls but I have no clue how they sand/prepped the surface for paint when it's textured (dimpled).

If you don't want to do the actual generation swap you can always paint the face plate like I did with the 09 part. It comes off really easy. After I removed it, i cleaned it really well, slapped on some primer and used matte black spray paint. Reinstall. Super easy.

    Finished product:
    20200809_154032.jpg

If you're ever interested in the swap, I have a lot of info on it in my build page. I started a separate thread as well that links to a bunch of threads with all the info you need.

Just trying to shoot you some encouraging ideas

Hahaha, ya... That happens. I try to include the lady in every mod production, that way it's her fault too if something doesn't work out

So got everything hooked up and everything works (GPS, radio, WIFI, Phone/Bluetooth, Navigation) except steering wheel controls (2014 Tacoma). I went into settings and it showed a screen with reset and save tabs and it said to press the steering wheel controls. Tried them all and nothing works. Am I doing something wrong here???

Left over OEM plugs (one is USB but not sure what other two are).

Left over Dasaita plugs (two white ones and two small black ones).

Well before I go and brick my new device I have been attempting to download the Agama Car Launcher from the Google Play Store to install on my HU. I saw it download the file but get the continuous spinning circle of death saying it is installing. Going on for an hour or more now and I have a good connection with my home WiFi (also used tethering and a hot spot but same results). So here was my alternative. I downloaded the android version to a USB stick and intended to use the APK installer to execute the file. I clicked on the install function with the installer and it sees the USB stick but not the Agama file. Did a little more research and it said to go into Security and turn on the option for downloading from unknown sources. Well there was no such function in the security tab.

So I am allowing the spinning circle of death installation to continue for now. Interestingly I downloaded the ON-X hunting app with no issues. I also tried to download Waze and Firefox (android version) and ran into the same issue.

So has anyone else had this issue and/or attempted to download the Agama Car Launcher software? Do not want to brick my nice new head unit.

I was going to install a launcher but heard nothing works with Android 10 at the moment. I was going with Hal9k. I'm not sure Agama is updated to work with Android 10

Well, I finally got my Canbus in the mail today and I’m pretty sure it’s the wrong one. I can’t get my speakers to work correctly, there’s no place to plug in my antenna, and the unit won’t turn off! Even my accessories stay on without the ignition on!:annoyed: I also couldn’t get my backup camera to work! I had to disconnect the harness from the back of the unit simply to turn it off! Here’s a pic of the canbus they sent me:
