Well I have decided its time to add a dash cam. Anyone have a garmin 55? The wife is commuting 50 miles one way for work and sees stupid things everyday. God forbid she end up as part of one of these idiot drivers mistakes. I'm not sold on any one brand, it will be going in the Subaru Outback. Might be cool to take it on vacation with the camper a few times a year. Looking for input and thoughts. Rear view camera needed? I'm really not savvy with electronics and the wife won't be bothered to mess with it every time she starts the car, so it needs to be plug and play automatic everything... What are the suggestions? Garmin has always had the best/easiest user interphase...

Do you own one @Purpleman ? That seems like a nice option.

I've installed a few BlackVue cameras, but I don't own one.

I currently have the Kenwood DRV-N520 because it plugs directly into the Kenwood Excelon radio I put in the wifes car.

It's been a while since I researched dash cams and out of the brands I recall being contenders to purchase BlackVue, Thinkware and Momento stood out.

The wife and I have have a few close calls driving recently, knowing we have the dashcam gives us peace of mind.

My wife drives 90 miles round trip every day. Morons whip in and out merging three lanes at a time. Seems like a video of stupidity would go a long ways with the judge and insurance man. Also she got a pretty nice door ding in the parking lot on a two month old Subaru with 3000 miles on the clock. Not that they would ever pay, but it just gets old fast. With winter approaching I think it might be time to add one into the fleet.

Cheap but still HD is probably a good way to go.

I've used dedicated dash cams before but they are pricey and I've had them fail on me. Now I just use Mobius cameras. They are like $79 and loop record. I think it's a good idea to run one facing rearward.

The camera has a standard tripod thread for mounting, which you can use with the Ram mounts. Ive also just used double sided tape.
