Yeah, the tire stops about 1" from the bed at full flex. It's not fully flexed in these pics though. I believe the tires on Bill's truck are 32", so wasn't enough to fully twist my suspension.

 

Changed my 180k motor over to Mobil1 Synthetic today, hoping for the best!

 

When you first pulled up onto my front wheel at the rode and I had you stop, that was the point where the rear tire on the left side just started lifting off the ground. To be honest that is not bad at all for an IFS truck. Your RTI score would probably be pretty high on an IFS competition scale. I sooooo need to buy or build an RTI ramp and see what we all would score.

That would be way better than what I do now... go to the same wedge shape rock and see how high I can get on it.

 

Yeah, rocks tend to be a bit off on their constant scale. lol. If you go to the big off-road shops and such, your RTI score is kinda like your bragging rights. Everyone can talk about how awesome their truck flexes, but a TRUE measure of flex is a scaled RTI Ramp. We used to play with those ramps all the time in Florida at the truck shows.

 

Little update.

Took my truck to BamaToy1997's shop to check out a weird noise it was making when in 4WD. Come to find out both CV axles were bouncing around in the hubs, and are both missing a little washer/spacer setup that is supposed to be in there.

Apparently, the previous owner figured they were not needed. We think this may have something to do with my "snapping CV's like twigs" problem.

New wheel hubs had to be ordered along with the spacers. Expensive, but well worth it if it solves all the front end problems I've been experiencing.


Will post pics when the ball gets rolling on the replacement.

^^ Thanks! The bed was like that when I bought it. I plan to add a tube roll bar and some rear tube fenders to it. Right now, if I drive through a little mud, it cakes all over the back window.

Wow, that's interesting... did it make any noise in 2wd? What noise were you hearing?

 

No noise in 2wd. Was a vibrating sound in 4wd. Bill layed across my front bumper while I drove forward and back, and he could see the CV's vibrating up and down. They are not supposed to move btw.

The spacers that hold the CV's still are part of the wheel hubs. Repair requires replacing the wheel hubs, have to press bearings on the new hubs of course.

 

was this an obvious "oh well that is missing right there" moment or was it much harder to see that a key piece was missing? just wondering with all the work that was done and as many cvs as you have swapped out on it, what finally gave it away that something was missing???

 

You can't see them, and the only way to tell that was a problem was to see them moving in 4wd. That's why we didn't catch it until now.

When I replaced all the CV's, I noticed they they moved a little but assumed the manual hubs held them straight. That's what I get for thinking I knew these trucks well.

 

Okay, new hubs installed, with new bearings, and replaced one CV that was beat up do to it vibrating inside the hub. Everything is tight now, and works properly!
