Got the TJ coils in today. @JTFisherman did you have to modify the perch for Jeep coils? It’s so close…

Both sides are the same. They’re these-

not the end of the world to shave the mount down or cut it out and weld in some fabricator part from Barnes or something, but wanted to check with you before going the hard path haha

yea that's weird. Wonder if mine are worn down a bunch or there is just a difference in coil spring manufacturers.

if I were you, I would fish a bolt up in there and slap some of these on and call it good as long as they tighten down decent I would run it like that. Then you wouldn't have to worry much about loosing a spring while drooped out too.

I may try to persuade the perch with a hammer since it’s really close. Conveniently enough there’s that hole in the center so one of those plates wouldn’t be hard to adapt. These are 21” long and the free length seems good so far. 160# so I’m curious what it’ll be like when on its feet.

One thing I don’t like is I’ll need 2.5” rear wheel spacers to clear the shock body at full articulation. Looks wide as shit and Bora is pretty much the only route for that size unless I want to do 3” which is super ugly haha

you have 2.0s in the rear or 2.5 shocks? surprised you need 2.5" spacers. I have 2" spacers and it is pretty wide but I think it works with the 3.5 front. 2.5 probably wouldn't be bad, the tires just wont tuck inside the fender for shit. Could just go with a 2" spacer too and let it rub the shock some.

2.0’s and I had to notch the frame and shave a bit off the shock mounts to not have any bind. 12” shocks are probably better for this kit for the masses that don’t cycle stuff or want to get this creative lol. I may end up strapping to 12.5” of travel just because of the coil free length so I’ll see where the shock body is at that point. I like to cycle with no bumps or straps and work back from that as a fail safe.

limiting factor on full stuff uptravel is the round frame crossmember. Top link would hit if I didn’t have the rubber bumper on the shock shaft. I’m pretty well into the bump stops at that point, so I’m not terribly interested in trying to figure out a new crossmember. Also I’m not go fast so I doubt I’ll ever fully stuff both tires that hard at once lol

@JTFisherman did you relocate the air intake from the passenger side fender or did you keep the plastic fender liner?

Airbox was cracked to shit from fender and core support fkex and with the long travel at full bump I didn’t have room for it so I put on a ebay cold air intake then switched to a k&n a few months ago.

Ebay one I used with a paper filter to keep dust down since I don’t like the idea of oiled filters Offroad, but it had leaks and ran out of power on hwy. k&n with the oiled filter is much better and it is segregated from the rest of the engine bay so it gets colder air.

if I did it again I would reach out to this guy in the pic. Cheaper than k&n and they have a sealed option if you want a snorkel.
    IMG_9121.png
my first gen tacoma on 35s I put on a snorkel after I got tired swapping air filters every time I went offroad.

Dang, I wish it was as easy as putting the intake in the cowl like the Tacoma. I’m not big on oiled filters either. What’s the difference in the eBay ones and the one you screenshotted? Looks like the eBay ones isolate it a bit with a little wall.

don’t know what year yours is but the 96-98 MAF was kinda hard to find a decent intake for.

this woudnt work for my 97 because of MAF
    IMG_9127.jpg

This is what I got but it has some garbage plastic barbs screwed into the aluminum tube that cause leaks in the intake and it is pulling hot air, especially when my headlights were in.
    IMG_9128.jpg

this one may have potential and is cheaper but no divider to section it off.
    IMG_9129.jpg
I’ll take a pic of mine tonight but I had to modify the differ plate anyways, might be best to just buy one of those other cheaper options and make your own divider.

I also think you could reroute to the cowl it just isn’t popular on these. I don't know if I would have enough room for a tube running under the fender with how little of mine is left

Mine’s a 2001, so I’m not sure what the difference is, but I’ll do some digging tonight and see what I can find.

Alright @JTFisherman here’s what I’m working with. Honestly not sure what constitutes a good vs bad aftermarket intake at this point lol

When i was getting my 37s on, i just cut the airbox off and put a cone on the end, retaining the MAF factory mount from the airbox.

Nice. Any kind of heat shield or anything? Just a cone filter banded to the tube cut right past the sensor? What’d you do about the other tube coming off?

96-98 atleast in T4R has a tube maf, past that has a bolt in one that sticks down into the intake tube

here is my k&n, can take better pics in light later if you want.
    IMG_9139.jpg IMG_9140.jpg

Room at the fender is pretty tight with all the hammering and cutting, and looks like I didn’t plug the hole for the stock intake
    IMG_9143.jpg IMG_9144.jpg

    97 maf tube
    IMG_9145.jpg

Cold air because no stock headlights
    IMG_9146.jpg

also this filter is a Honda prelude filter that has a 3” inlet? you could use with the right size rubber boot, I used these with my previous intake for cleaner air with the paper filter.

Alright that makes more sense now, thanks for the pics. I probably need to clearance for tires before nailing anything down, but 35’s with a bl shouldn’t be too bad up top. I like the Honda filter idea. Easier/cheaper off the shelf part.

No heat shield yet, it's on the to do list. I just capped the other end of that vacuum line.

I’ve never welded or formed sheet metal before. Not pretty at all, but it’ll keep the rust and water away better than the previous owners spray foam lol ended up overlapping the rocker panel instead of trying to patch all those areas. Blended good enough for me.

Watch out on the highway. Didn’t know I was building a race car  this kit took a little bit of messing with, but the intake is out of the open wheel well now.
