Rear end is on the ground now. Have about 200 lbs to add to the rear, so hopefully it comes down a bit especially when the front is on the ground. More sheet metal work to patch the hole after clearing 35’s.

Yeah she’s way tall haha but I have no skids, sliders, tools, spare, spare parts etc back there yet. Doubt it’ll come down enough, but I’m hopeful lol I could also trim the axle side perch down and lower it maybe 1/2” since it doesn’t sit flush.

Decided to turn an old printer stand into a pack out mount/storage box/on board air hub/wiring conglomeration. Found two Vevor ARB knockoffs listed wrong on eBay, so I pickup up two at half price. Was able to use 3/8” air hose for everything, but I doubt I’ll see any difference. I’ll mount a spare upright next to the box.

Been a rough ride the past few weeks. My oldest spent a couple days at Children’s getting the first of two surgeries to fix her hip dysplasia last Thursday. I hate seeing my baby in pain, but she’s recovering well from the first and we will go back for the next surgery in a few weeks.

She’s been enjoying feeding goats from the wagon, and I built her a chair so that she can sit upright to eat and play some.

Glad she's doing well. It's awful seeing your kids hurting. Great work on the chair. She looks like a happy girl. Stay strong.

I was on the fence about these uniball conversions from TC, but they seem to be a really solid upgrade. Will see how the ring mates up to the spindle. Should keep a lot of side load off of the four bolts.

I had a guy that was lecturing me on the tc conversion suggest I safety wire the bolts as well, which is not a bad idea to make sure they arnt loosing preload or coming loose.

he didn’t think people shearing all 4 bolts was a thing, he said two come loose and they only shear two. I know I sheared all four of mine but he thinks one of my bolts was loose.

@theesotericone how many times did you shear bolts and was it all 4 or were some bolts often unaccounted for?

How’d he recommend adding safety wire? Drilling through the bolt heads or another way I’m not thinking of? Speaking of bolts, these came with 10.9 zinc coated similar head to OEM I think. Torque spec was in the 60’s maybe. Really want to see if I can press in new uniballs when bolted up, and I might just weld these to the spindle in a couple spots. Not sure I’ll really put these through enough to justify that, but we will see.

That’s weird to me the TC came with aftermarket bolts…

I swear forever they were saying we use oem bolts because they are the best.

Either way, read that article by spiked engineering on lbj bolts and I would steer away from anything not oem or arp

im kinda thinking about buying a safety wire drill rig for the bolt heads, I can do a few for you too if I do, just need to decide if I drill the oem washer bolts that are 2.50$ each or the arp bolts that are 5$ each

arp are 12 point and they don’t make 12 point specific safety wire drill rigs but they do for 6 point

Do you know if the factory ball joint hugs that circle cut out in the factory spindle? I’m out of town or I’d check mine. If the TC ones are as tight of a tolerance as they say I think that’d help cut down on a lot of stress.

I read that article and the factory bolts seem best for sure. I have some I bought new beforehand. I’m going to beat the piss out of it on my trails before taking the family out in it so maybe I’ll get them to snap haha

Factory lbj doesn’t really have any contact there.

that guy told me the TC is super tight in the spindle, I feel like their index cones on the outer bolts arnt as nice though.

I think the index in the center is nice but idk how much it would help depending how they shear, if it is shearing with the kingpin axis it will just spin around that indexed circle, and if they are broken in tension from a hard hit then it will just lift off the top.

would have to be shearing front to back. Or turning then hitting steering stops then shearing them off by pivoting off the steering stop

That’s a good point. I’m curious to see how they hold up. If it wasn’t for the double shear and reaming out OEM ball joints every time I had to change them I’d stick with OEM. That and pressing out a cheaper uniball are good incentives, but maybe not $1150 worth on their own haha

Oh I gotcha. I was reading your message below and thought he broke his, too. I’d bet those TC bolts are reg ass 10.9’s nothing special. Really curious about just stitch welding a section and calling it a day lol somewhere easy to cut apart if need be.
