or maybe I should just say he is a better driver than me haha

Definitely interested to hear from folks that are running it. I didn’t find a lot of reviews from people that are beating on it. I’m not planning to go full bouncer when I wheel this one, but it will not be babied either lol I think you need to test some out

I sheared the drivers twice and the passenger once. There was never any missing bolts. They sheared for sure.

@JTFisherman in case you were curious- I picked up some 861 coils today and it lowered the rear about 3” compared to the Rusty’s coils. However, they do not have enough free length so the passenger side is loose when strapped to 12”. Driver side is decent but not a lot of preload at full droop. They’d both be at risk of falling out once the strap stretches out.

I’m not seeing a universe where a 14” smooth body is worth it on the freel good kit. You’ll be stuck at cycling what a 12” could do and have worse ground clearance axle side. From talking to the guy at Opt and Freel good, they both run 14” bypasses with 861 coils. Guess they’re strapped closer to the safe limits of a 12” shock.

Debated raising the coil bucket mount a couple inches since I have the 1” body lift, but I don’t think it’s worth the effort. Going to strap around 11.5” and maybe revisit some more Jeep coils later. Still hopeful there’s a magic combination of free length and rate.

I have some retainers, but having no force on a fully extended tire sucks. No traction there. I have the cones in, but they don’t space them down much. Spacers could probably work on a lighter coil only if it didn’t bind though. It’s really close with the uptravel it has. I think min collapsed length for the coil was 7.5”, but need to double check.

Dang, sorry the Rusty’s didn’t work out. I thought they would be closer than 3”. Wonder what yours weighs?

could also try superlift 580, they lowered mine 3/4” ish and are a touch longer I think, but more important they are available on Amazon so easy to return if it isn’t an improvement over the 861

Good point. I think the 861 should work decent enough for now. Once I get it on the ground I’ll try swapping out some more. I feel like it ride height is a bit skewed with just the front on stands.

On the ground for the first time. Still a lot to wrap up. @JTFisherman ass end is high. Can’t tell if the front is too low, too. I have no good reference point since it had a shitty RC lift when I got it. I have about 100 lbs to add to the rear, but I don’t think the 861 will pan out. Know of any longer lighter coils? Maybe stock with a spacer if it doesn’t coil bind? lol

    Superlift 580?

idk what free length was but pretty sure it was atleast that of 861 and it lowered my rear bumper 3/4”. They should be on Amazon so easy return. I do have more weight probably with s

did the rear lower any when it came off stands?

For height, included pics of 37s and 35s at two ride heights, sorry to clutter up the thread haha 37s are after raising 1.5” ish it when it was too low on 35s I’m happy enough with this ride height, would lower it a touch maybe with 37s, but don’t want to with the rake.

when I had 35s it was a little low before I raised ride height. scraped a decent bit but the rake bothered me more.

my hub is 17 off the ground and frame behind front tire is 21.5 in front of rear tire is 22 right now

Man thank you for that. I’ll grab some measurements this weekend. I think the front may be alright the more I look at it. Gotta weld up the sliders and put on skids so there’s some more weight. Need tools, spares and air compressors in the rear. Rear is probably the problem. I’ll try some of the super lift coils. Looking back, I think you’ve told me that forty times and I haven’t listened :rofl:

@JTFisherman thought I’d give AI a shot lol the OME 2616 might actually work…not sure if wrangler coils will fit though. Do you know? Also, I can’t find rate info on the superlift coils anywhere. Still surprised the Rusty coils at 20” and 160 lb/in didn’t sit closer to where the 861 do. Also, no way in hell anyone is cycling 14” without the coils falling out on 861. No more room for uptravel since the upper link hits the round crossmember

man that might be getting close to too light.

My rear is 2400 unloaded - 200 for tires, -200 for axle and -100 for misc. leaves you at 1900, so like 7" of compression which doesn't seem too bad i guess. I can measure my 861 length at ride height tonight to compare

Will be really loose in the rear though, i would want a sway bar probably

I think that measurement would probably tell me a lot actually.

I’ve got the 1” body lift, so I have to factor that in as far as how it looks vs what it actually is. Would be nice to have stiffer coils for sure. Make the front do more work.

That being said, up front I may could even step down. Coil is technically loose when fully extended off the vehicle, so the only preload so to speak would be under compression of the vehicle and limited by the strap…it would never be loose except when off the vehicle. 450lb/in 18” long

Have you tried 80 series front coils yet? They're the next step down from 861s. And yes, the front 80s are used in the rear of the 4Runner. Plenty of info online

I read into those, but was overwhelmed by actually trying to find some. Looked for used and new online and couldn’t tell pink dots from yellow and this many wraps from this many etc etc.

since the 861 are stock height but heavier load for LC then they might actually be a good fit

Maybe add an inch to this because it is on that metal bracket not the top of spring.

I also do have the coil isolators in if that matters.

so probably 13.75 ish spring at ride height both sides.

Just measured mine and it’s 15” with nothing in the trunk so I’m not far off by any means. Going to play it cool and see what’s what with sliders, skids, tools, parts, spare etc. maybe the 1” body lift is making it so much more dramatic?

    Tires are too small haha

idk, wouldn't expect it to look as different as it does since my fender is cut then rolled up a good bit too. I think the giant front fender cuts on mine really make it look more level just because.

Doesn’t look like your are really far off these guys.

This one has a 1” body lift and 35s. looks like a good bit more suspension lift than me too
    IMG_9715.jpg

pretty sure no bodylift on this one, 35s I have wheeled with him and it does well, I just like stuff low with big tires lol
