OP, thanks for keeping up with this post. This setup is sounding better and better. Will likely take the same route.

Did you run into any alignment problems without aftermarket UCA’s? I really don’t wakt to buy any, but if I have to I will.

No alignment issues that's why I stayed with 885 springs instead of going to 887. 887 seems to be hit or miss with stock UCAs and alignments.

Any suggestions on how to achieve this same lift and stance (preserving the rake) but accommodating for the weight of a cap and decked storage system in the bed?

When I did my lift on 2013 I was wondering about tire weght. My 255/75/17 Hankooks Dynapro mounted on Ray10s weighed 1 pound more than stock sport rims with half worn 265/65/17 Kumho At 51

Single AAL and Sumo springs for a start, or maybe an airbag system.

Or custom leaf pack depending on the total weight.

Is there any feedback on wether or not you’re going through a significant amount of additional ball joints or extra tire wear?

I am about to order 5100s all around with OME 885s and Icon progressive add a leaf.

I went to my Brother who is a service manager at my local shop and he said all the Tacoma’s they see that have lifts/suspension upgrades seem to be getting 2-3 ball joints replaced annually and some even are replacing tires annually o_O.

We have harsh winters, and roads full of pot holes, but this sounds ridiculous. I understand trucks are engineered from factory and anytime you start changing that you’re adding stress to other components that engineers didn’t account for, so have you guys had any troubles now that you’ve been running this set up for awhile.

Seems like everyone on TacomaWorld loves this set up.

Tires have 31k on them now, no uneven wear with rotations every 10k miles, steering still tracks straight with no wobble. Still using the same alignment after install with factory UCAs.

Lift has been on a year now and still extremely pleased with it.

I think if I were running a heavier tire and wheel I might see more wear but the 265/70/17 nitto TG I have clocks in at 42 lbs.

Thanks for the reply, I plan on running 265/75/16 on my stock OR Rims.

Any chance you’d know where I can get the 1/4” spacer in Canada? Headstrongs website doesn’t ship directly, maybe if I called them? Going to end up being well over $100 Canadian by the time it gets here with the dollar difference and duties. :boom:

    UPDATE:

Found 2 locations, approximately 80$ CAD to the door.

Curious if this lift setup affected mpg significantly? I’m already running 265/75/16s on stock suspension.

With summer gas my 40 mile round trip commute averages about 23 mpg if I keep it below 65.

    Tanks are about 21mpg overall.

Since you left your overload leaf in and you initially got 2.25 inches of lift in the rear, did you need to install extended brake lines or anything else along with the AAL? Reason I ask is that new a Dakar leaf set gives less lift (2 inches) and the headstrong kit with Dakar’s comes with extended brake lines.

No I didnt need to extend them for the type of trails I drive, I dont rock crawl or run trails that need a whole lot of articulation.

Depending on what you do you might.

    Hey Jason,

I'm about ready to pull the trigger and order the kit from Headstrong for the 5100 Bilsteins, OME 885s and the HS 3 leaf AAFs and I'm going to also replace the driver side needle bearing like you recommended.

My truck is a 2017 TRD Sport DCLB with a camper shell and like you my truck is basically a daily driver and commuter for work (rarely do I go off road) and I'm only looking for a 2"- 2.5" lift.

I'm basically looking for confirmation that this is the best route for my truck and my wants and if there's anything special I need to explain to the installer.

Thank you for the tons of info you've already shared!

Here are a few photos of my truck

Looks good but what do you estimate the weight of the stuff you carry in the bed in addition to the weight of the shell?

If anything keep the overload leaf in otherwise you might end up with the rear dragging a bit over time. If over 300lbs I would consider a replacement leafpack.

Good luck and hope you enjoy the lift!

I'll double check my average weight back there but I can't imagine having more than 250lbs on a daily basis.

I'll look into the replacement leafpacks just in case though.

    Thanks Jason!

i put the wheelers 3 leaf add a leaf pack in, and left my overload leaf in. put it all back together, and had a low speed vibration. i had to order the 3 degree shims for the rear axle, and vibration went away.... (i did the ECGS bushing, when i did the front end)
