So I traded in my '09 with 165k on the clock and got $8k for it towards my new Tacoma:
    2017 TRD Sport
    Double Cab
    Short Bed
    V6
    6 Speed Manual
    Premium Sound W/Entune
    4x4

First thing is always first, de-badging:

Next, I bought a black trim piece for the grille, and plasti-dipped the emblem black:

I also added AVS in channel vent visors. Of course the white AVS letters had to come off. A little isopropyl alcohol, elbow grease, towels, and finger nails made quick work of it.

    Added Pro Tails:

I used resistor socket adapters, removing the resistor for the brake light. They were 8 ohm so they draw only 1.5 A, dissipating 18W. The resistors are rated for 50W, so they should be fine heat wise. I also used heat sync tape between them and the body. Used Xspeed LED’s for reverse, brake, and blinker. No hyperflashing. I used the new socket even on the brake light with no resistors because it was deeper and held the larger LED bulbs better. All plug in, no splicing.

Everything appeared to work perfectly, key on off, headlights on off, etc. in my driveway.
So the first trip driving at night with the headlights on with the LEDs in the tails was a nightmare.
First, pulling onto a main road, I got the brake and accelerator pedal pressed together warning. Lost all power and would only go 5 mph with it floored (and my foot not on the brake). Turned truck on and off, pulled key out, pressed brake pedal a few times, etc., finally cleared and I was able to get where I was going. Second, on my way home, I noticed my brake lights came on with my headlights. Pulled the connector off the brake pedal switch and they stayed on. Almost home, and I get the Brake Overide Malfunction - See Your Dealer message, but no loss of power/cutting out.
Got home, promptly removed the LEDs and resistors from the brake and blinker sockets in the tails, and all errors and issues went away. I left the LEDs in the reverse light sockets.
