But, in Canada, that only applies "if" you have purchased the "Toyota Care"... YES. I said PURCHASED... Oil changes are not FREE guys/gals... Wake up and smell the dipstick..! (they try to hide it in the purchase agreement)...

The Toyota Care was something like $700.00 (for 4 free oil changes)..here and I told them to put it where the sun don't shine... Thank you very much for that "freebie"...

I'm obviously not sure what happens in the USofA, but here we buy that service....!

In the US, Toyota's come with two years free maintenance. It's not a dealer item, it comes with every new Toyota, like the factory warranty. It's not an extended service plan added on at the dealership. Anything beyond 2 years is some sort of extended service agreement that is either agreed to by the customer, or "provided" by the dealership and hidden in the contract. I spent a few years in Finance at dealerships and there was a lot of crap stuck in finance contracts that customers didn't know about. It's getting better I think, but it happens all the time.

Oil changes can be an optional add-on to the extended warranty. Finance guys get bonuses for "selling" multiple products, so they tend to package one or two products together and sell it as one.

Yeah, if the finance guy sucked you into the "extended warranty", then you have just purchased 4 free oil changes...!! Use them..!!

By the way ... how much was the extended warranty..?? Free oil changes..?

Easy now. Just because you think they are a waste, there's no need to belittle someone for buying one.

Didn't pressure me into it at all I asked for it. I don't give the slightest shit with majority of the stuff since I have CAA premier for towing etc. Don't care much for the oil changes either as I have my mechanic I'd get all work done from besides warranty work and I'll be doing my own oil changes in the warmer months lol. No way I'm crawling under the truck in the winter.

applies to both quotes and @over60, normally I don't care for extended warranties since I find them to be more of a hassle than useful. Only went with it and chose only the gold package since with all the known issues with the 3rd gen for the 2016s and some have carried over to 2017, figured I'd like to extend the warranty a bit for the powertrain as it seems most of the issues are powertrain related.

I'll hit the 60 000km warranty in 18-20 months since I drive a lot. Figured its worth stretching a little bit longer.

Don't tell that to people shopping for cars listening to the dealers ads. $199 a month lease, ZERO DOWN. "Hmmmm, that doesn't sound too good to be true, lets go there honey"

    lol I love those things.
No such thing as 0% finance thats for sure lol. I love when you see dealers say 0% finance yet as soon as you say you'll pay cash the price drops by $3000-5000.
They say 0% but really the interest is just included in the price you're financing.

I bought a Mustang GT Convertible a few years ago, when they changed the body style. I could get 1.9% for 72 months or get 3.9 and a $5000 rebate. Knowing how quick I trade cars, I took the rebate and the higher payment. It blew the finance guys mind. He couldn't understand why I wanted to pay a higher payment. I didn't keep that car past 2 years, and had a $5000 lower payoff when I sold it.

ya man. I'm not like you who gets to live in a beautiful place lol.
I need to live in a stupid city and escape it. I drive up to minden and fenlon falls every weekend in the summer. about every 2nd or 3rd weekend in the winter and still drive around the city all week sometimes to the west end of the city when I'm in the east just for work.

Some of the conversations that I have had with those finance people almost makes me think that they believe what they are telling you. The one I dealt on the Tacoma with just gave me dumb face when I explained with my financial calculator why what she was offering me was a bad deal.

Edit: I didn't explain it just for the fun of it. She wasn't taking no so I had to walk her through why no.

Do you need to know, or care?
What some are missing is that if you tend to trade your truck in every few years and have dealer service truck as per schedule you get "Toyota Certified" truck at trade-in, which brings you added trade in allowance. So although it may cost you over the added cost of regular service, it can add to trade in allowance and additional value over one that has service records outside of Toyota certified service. It all depends on what you plan with your vehicle. For me, I usually don't keep mine for extended periods, so prefer to have it certified and get top dollar at trade-in at dealer. Costs a little more at time of purchase, but get it back at trade in time.

Toyota Certified has nothing to do with getting your service done at a dealership. Sounds like a dealership sales pitch. All any of these "certification" programs are just a checklist that the dealer has to do, like make sure the tires have a certain amount of tread left, no mechanical issues present at the time, clean car fax, etc. The same stuff a good dealer should be doing anyway. The car has to have less than a certain amount of miles, and be a under a certain age. Then the manufacturer charges the dealer a fee and then adds a "free" extended warranty to the car. This cost gets passed along to the customer because people are willing to pay more for a certified car. You can do all the service yourself, and the car can still be certified. It's a marketing gimmick. A Car Fax is a waste of money, and stops people from having the car checked out by a mechanic, like they should. I had a wreck in a GMC Sierra that bent the frame. The body shop fixed it, and it never showed up on the Car Fax report. Most certifications will allow a car to be certified if it's been in an accident, as long as there is no frame damage, and the car fax is clear. The only certification programs worth the money are on high end lux cars, because those extended warranties cost north of $4,000, and you don't want to be driving a BMW or Mercedes out of warranty.

I had my dad take my 2016 2.7 4cyl in for the 15k maintenance and as I was reading the invoice, it said no oil change was done. Only the tire rotation, fluid check, etc.... So I called and the service guy told me oil changes are only required every 10k miles, and that it uses synthetic oil. This is my first time hearing as I was told by my sales guy who verified with the service guy at the time of purchase that the 2.7 4cyl was different then the v6 and the oil change should be done at every 5k and still use conventional oil.

Can someone confirm this is true? Have things changed since Aug of 2015?

I thought the 4 was the same as the 6 only needing changes every 10k, you can always look it up in the owners manual.
