We have two data points here, one good, one bad. So 50% reliability right? Oh, except my 2004 Pilot had 155k miles with no issues when I sold it. So, three data points; 67% reliability.

 

KTM / Husky are easily the best bikes out right now. Never thought I'd say that, being a lifetime Yamaha guy (I own both still).

Actually there is a 4th in that post. And I believe there are a few more specifically just for the Odyssey, I know of one for excessive vibrations not to mention the issue with exhaust heat shield rattling.

Although I don’t think it is just cost reduction. With the growing number of equipment and regulations, automakers —Toyota and Honda included— are finding it tougher to get everything tested properly given the amount of time they have.

As someone new to the brand, one thing I am liking about Toyota is: you can see continuous improvement in Tacoma between 2016 and 2019, let alone 2020. That tells me Toyota is not resting on its laurels.

Of course this is small consolation if you bought one of the earlier models with the most issues.

 

Right?? It’s so weird to say... I’ve been a lifelong Honda guy (currently on a CRF250R) but I’ve been eyeing KTM for the harescrambles I do.

 

And then say they went "Overlanding" on some sweet trails.

 

But that is 1st year for Honda vs second year for Toyota. I just went with 2017 because that’s what I have. Didn’t check 2018 data and nothing for 2019 yet. According to the data you showed with Honda’s overall ranking I would expected the Tacoma to have beat the ridgeline. Guess there is multiple layers of data and that sometimes data from one thing and contradict the data for another. All this data my head is spinning.


The data from TW says the Tacoma is better but the data from the ridgeline forum says the ridgeline is better. Toyota data shows the Tacoma is better and Honda data shows the ridgeline is better. Here the kicker. GM data shows the Colorado is better than both. I just don’t get it

 

Nothing wrong with staying with Honda, if that is what you like. But just the KTMs are the best bikes right off the showroom. I bought a FC350 and it is unreal. Rode a friend's KTM before buying and basically as soon as I got off the KTM, I knew I was buying a Husky instead of another Yamaha. Lol.

You're right, Toyota has never had any class action lawsuits.

 

Yea...they have so much extra shit that you end up buying and throwing on your bike anyway. Or stuff that you never knew how amazing it is until you ride a bike with it (like hydraulic clutch)

 

Microsoft also has class action lawsuits. Therefore my argument is invalid. Thanks for setting me straight.

Full disclosure: I worked at JD Power between 1998 and 2002. Let me explain their methodology:

1. They figure out a minimum number of owners needed to obtain a valid sample for each model
2. They draw a random sample of vehicle owners of each model. To ensure representativeness, they set quotas by census region, sex, age and income groups
3. They mail out surveys in sufficient quantities to receive at least the minimum sample they need to report representative, valid results
4. When the data comes back, it is cleaned and processed. At this point, they take SALES to weight the results and calculate the scores.
5. Brand scores are calculated based on the scores of its models, accounting for sales mix

These scores are called PP100, which means Problems Per 100 vehicles sold.

I.e. these results represent the average number of problems encountered for every 100 vehicles sold. This takes sales volume out of the equation and allows scores to be compared against each other.

 

Had an 03 125SX. It was fine, just went through fork seals a little quickly. Back then the only trick was to call Munn Racing on the phone and have them talk you through suspension setup and make sure the right spring was on the bike. The new linkage bikes are easier
