This is right on. They will repair and there is no insurance report, so no record. All I would say is if they can't remove dents, that they replace the bed panel instead of using a filler.

I'm sure you could convey that politely and get something out of it in your favor. Try and work with them and give them some time. The more you push the less likely they'll do anymore than they have to. If you need a different type of vehicle than they have given you and you can provide evidence or justification for it I'm sure they'd make arrangements. Hang in there.

I'd definitely keep the repairs out of the insurance realm, the hit to carfax as a reported accident will lower value of the truck.

The Dealer screwed up, they know it, but accidents happen. If they can fix it in house without it being reported as an accident, consider that a win. Make sure, like get it in writing, that the trip to the body shop will not get reported to whatever database populates carfax like what happens when you go in for an oil change or alignment or whatever. I've seen my fleet vehicles go in for minor work in the dealer's body shop, like to install an accessory or something like that, and it will show up on the carfax as a trip to the dealership body shop, but without specifics as to what for. Kinda puts a big question mark on what was done if you go to sell sometime down the line.

Beyond that, rather than negotiating for cash, you'd probably come out farther ahead if you negotiated a high-dollar credit from their parts and accessories department. I bet they'd be more generous there since they can absorb the expense easier on their end, and you can benefit from some free stuff.

This. It's all about the way you approach it, like it or not. It's very understandable to be pissed, but how you conduct yourself usually determines how someone else will conduct themselves in pretty much majority of situations. You can either chose to escalate, or de-escalate. Doesn't always work, but with the right tactics you stand a better chance most times and most likely this is one of them. I agree with most here, it's their fault, their responsibility to make it right and getting insurance involved will only raise your premium, and you should NOT have to anyways.

If they decline, move on. They suck. Hell, even a free oil change and tire rotation would be a win, but they don't have to. Should they? Yes. Would I? 100% yes. It's not coming out of my pocket and Toyota can certainly afford it. But as long as my truck got fixed and there were no claims being made, then it's been made right enough in my book. I'd avoid them in the future, of course. The military teaches you that even as a private, you represent the Army as a whole. So this employee represents their dealership. If they are not willing to try and retain your business then go somewhere else. Not sure about your state OP, but I know mine protects the consumer as long as you can prove you've had the basic stuff done and kept up on recommended services.

It sounds like they are fixing it and gave a rental. So it's done. Sorry you had to go through this. I hope you have better experiences in the future.

As long as this doesn’t hit your insurance, you’re good! No record. I’d try to milk some credit out of it for sure.

    Not even close.

Why would anyone bother reading anything beyond this part? You don't say something like that then all the sudden become reasonable. Any smart person would turn and walk away then deal with someone else and get your management involved for your shitty attitude. It's clear you've never worked in customer service. "demands" are one thing, but your actions right there would get you put on toilet cleaning duties for the duration of your short stay if I was your leadership. Do you truly believe it's even worth going into what you should have done with a statement like that? The only one steering OP in the wrong direction here is you. OP's demands were out of anger and frustration. Something anyone in customer service is more than familiar with how to deal with and if the customer refuses to be reasonable, someone else steps in and so on up the chain. This thread is a great example of trying to calm OP down.

Dude go read the first 5 pages of this thread of the ridiculous, laughable "advice" given out about $1000/week demands, extortion threats to the dealer, wish lists of free "lifetime" oil changes and warranties, a new truck, parts department ripoff demands, and pie-in-the-sky DV claims.

They were serious. I was hoping this thread was satire. It apparently wasn't.

My point was and is if you are a greedy asshat you are entitled to NOTHING other than being restored to "pre-loss condition." Anything else is gravy but nothing is guaranteed nor warranted.

You seemed to agree with me but then decided to be a tool. Not sure what your problem is, chief. Go have a beer and relax.

There are law firms that specialize in diminished
value vehicles. My ex wife’s 6 month old Corolla was t boned by a driver. The guys insurance would only cover repairs and a rental for 5 days. She contacted a lawyer specializing in diminished value. He got her 4500.00 beyond the repair.
    Google for your area.

I think the main thing is demand the highest possible paint quality you can get. My main concern would be not being able to match the quality of factory paint....(I know, I know, Tacoma paint sucks anyway)

So maybe the new paint will be better anyway.

When my 2012 was new, at the fist oil change, the dealership chipped the finish off my wheels near the lug nut holes. I tried to get new rims but ended up settling for professional refinishing of the rims. I should have pushed harder to get new rims as the refinish wasn't nearly as good as original.

Sometimes the best quality paint is a bad thing. If you have one panel thats car show clean, and the rest is scratched and dull it will stick out like a sore thumb.

How exactly do you ensure the "highest quality" paint is used?

While that maybe the case for you, if later the OP tries to trade in the vehicle or sell any decent place will do a paint test and determine that side had work done thus diminishing the offer. I think the OP is well within his right to claim a diminished value even if it doesn't go to a carfax report etc.

You get to choose the body shop. Maaco probably wouldn't be my first choice....

Whether you go to Maaco or some high end body shop, how do you ensure the "highest quality" paint is used? Just because it's a high end body shop, doesn't mean they're using the highest quality paint.

Probably paid that lawyer a lot, so you just negated the $4500. BTW, you don't need a lawyer for DV claims. You just need to hire a DV estimator, calculate on your own using the 17c formula or just take the at fault driver to small claims court.
