No money, all went to truck...
True but that's the point of a high end body shop. This would be true of any business, you might not be getting what you pay for... If Toyota is footing the bill, you going to take it to Maaco?

I think it's less about what brand of paint and having a body shop that is going to go the extra mile to make it like new.

My mom had an old Honda CR-V that had the spare tire on the back and she was rear ended. The estimate noted that contact was made with the spare tire and the rear door needed repair. The insurance company forced her to use their body shop and they took the spare off and put it back on, but didn't do anything to the back door and it still had damage when she tried to pick it up. They told her to talk to the insurance company again.

She called her agent and they sent her to Maaco. She was worried about Maaco, but her agent was friends with that particular Maaco manager, and they fixed it in 2 days. Her agent told her that they've had a lot of problems with that shop even though they always gave the highest estimates.

It cost my ex 250.00 upfront to hire a diminished value lawyer. But she got 4500.00 back within 60 days.

I'm sure you sunk at least a grand into that attorney. Glad it worked out for you.

To me this wouldn't fly, but that's ok to each their own. If I (as the owner of the car) would be the one responsible for the damage, maybe I would take more of your stance of not caring. But if I'm paying for the car and someone else crashes it, I definitely care about the ramifications that can come later.

Again, that's my perspective because I take care of my stuff.

Exactly, I'd want to make sure that they are using a quality shop and not just the cheapest.

As someone who works in the service department at a dealership I find some of there demands hilarious. Ive seen a lube tech weld a tundra engine shut because they forgot to put oil in it and took it for a test drive and the only thing our dealership did was give the guy a rental while we put a used engine in the truck. Its a shitty situation but it wasn't done on purpose or with malicious intent but the responses here do coincide with the bullsh*t reviews we get for service in our emails every week. Some people are just a little to entitled

Please tell me more about this paint test. I’ve traded in numerous vehicles and never experienced this. Never heard of it at all in fact.

have you ever turned in a repainted vehicle? If you never have it pry wouldn’t be noted on the estimate.

I also said any decent place will do this and as the value of the car goes up so does the scrutiny

First thing I did. What I meant was, when does this scrutiny happen, and why have I never experienced it? I’ve traded lots of vehicles in to dealers.

I haven’t and I guess that partially answers the question, but does this only come up if you divulge it’s repainted? Or you’re saying the dealer notices it visually and then pulls out the tester?

I don’t ever buy high dollar vehicles, so…

Was just curious to hear more about this, beyond googling the device itself.

I had my last Tacoma appraised. It was in an accident and the front end had work. I also had the tailgate repainted. Neither job was on car fax report and I didn’t tell them but the guy went around testing every panel and found both. This actually happened at three places. One Toyota dealer, one carmax, and a mom/pop dealer.

Some places won’t do it, but it’s an easy test that pry takes someone 5 min. If there’s any signs that a cars been in a possible accident I’m sure they would do the paint test to confirm.

i think it's better to be honest and report it, cuz it WILL be found by a good appraiser.

But personal opinion in this particular situation is be cool and let them fix it, but when time comes trade it to same dealer. But OP may be cool with just telling someone on his own. It's not that really big of a deal, small wrecks happen all the time. And car lots and jobs that require driving just increase that.

    UPDATE:
After 3 weeks I finally picked up my truck from the dealership. They assured me that due to the inconvenience they had covered all the repairs and filled it up with gas. At this point that was fine with me because I honestly just wanted my truck back and didn't feel like dealing with them anymore. I was told that the electrical issue I initially brought it in for was fixed, oil change etc. was complete and obviously the repair was done.

The repair looked fine and the paint match was good, the check engine light was off and cruise control was working again, but the tank was under half. Annoying but I didn't really care as I had it back and wanted this to be done.

Went to test my remote start this morning and alas- doesn't work. They said that the electrical issue was being caused by the remote start (I had already known this and told them this initially) and I'm fairly certain they just disconnected it which turned the check engine light off and stopped throwing codes. They've apologized profusely but damn I'm just sick of dealing with this. I asked for a parts credit and they offered $250 which is something...

Hopefully all will be remedied tomorrow and this saga will end. Not quite at the point where I want to rake this as yet unnamed dealership over the coals but we'll see how it all works out.

ALSO- the repair did not show up on carfax as of yet which was a relief.
