Meh, as others have said...if the dealer is making it right, you'll be fine so long as the repair is legit.

Best outcome is if it isn't reported to carfax, so nobody but you will ever know about the diminished value when it comes time to sell.

you don't have to say it...we all know which you'd pick...the same one everybody else would pick...the one that had NOT been repaired!

@TuffGus i ironically had this happen on my *first* maintenance visit by dealership (2020 Tacoma- also w softopper ). I had all the same questions and concerns you did and can confirm they used their factory body shop and brought it all back to original condition. I also did not have anything show on my carfax 2 years later…what I did ask sicnce they had damaged the rear tail light was to have the replacement upgraded to the pros (black instead of chrome) and they didn’t mind at all. Sort of made me feel better about the whole thing. The nice thing is now every time I go in (guessing you as well), they seem extra extra careful and park it in the showroom for me to pick up etc. so they seem to make a vip note in your file etc. sorry this happened to you- in some ways for me it was kind of liberating to go from buying w 400 miles and keeping it perfect to using it more like a truck, if that helps. Best of luck

Wow Opie. That really sucks. Conduct yourself well during this little mishap and hopefully the dealership will take care of you for a long time going forward.

I know this is true, but man it feels just wrong.

Dealership: "We crashed your car, but if you treat us well about it we wont try to fuck you over at every chance"

Didn’t read through all but when you get a diminished value quote it will be low ball as fuck. You can pretty much double what they say and stick to that. It’s usually around 10% the value of the vehicle so I wouldn’t settle for less than $4k on your truck.

This same thing happened to a coworkers Tundra. They fixed it and seemingly did a nice job. He also got them to put a new set of tires on as extra compensation

It can go beyond that though. I have bought a number of new vehicles at one of my local dealerships. Have never had an issue until I had a major warranty repair done to our Sienna. They made a few "mistakes" which I caught and it took several trips to correct them properly. The service manager was apologizing profusely about it, but I was like "Okay shit happens, don't worry about it, just get it right and we are good". Then I brought my truck in with my cap on for the third brake light recall, service tech said go take your cap off or we can't do it. Talk to the service manager and poof, "don't worry we will take care of it", and they did. Two way street.

Its just sad that they have to cause you so many problems just for them to treat you like a customer.

Let the dealership fix it, there won’t be any diminished value. Dealership going to fix it at there expense, and nothing is going to get reported anywhere. If it isn’t done to your satisfaction, which I doubt fix it until it is.

I'd guess it won't show up on your insurance/body shop/car fax report. They will just repair it in house and call it a day. No one will know any differently. As long as they use a good repair shop, you'll be fine. Nothing to worry about. Sucks, but it could be worse.

I didn't read past page one but as others have said no matter what get dimished value. My wife got rear ended a few years back and her Rubicon only needed a new bumper, other drivers insurance cut us a check and said no worries since I was fixing myelf "we don't report any damage thats the body shop's job". When we traded it in on our Tacoma the damage was ON carfax and the dealer gave us less for the trade. I had no recourse with the paying insurance company as once you sign and cash check it's done.

Get estimate from 2 separate shops, and return inquiring how long until they cut you a check. drive as is until you decide to repair it. The paint on the bed looks intact. You would amazed what some of these dent wizard type guys can do. Might cost a lot less than body shop, you pocket the difference, and there will be no blemish on the title.

A lifetime warranty on the whole truck would be a nice jesture.......after they fix the damage to "like it never happened" state.....ask for it

Damn lot boys strike again. I was accussed of wreaking a new Mustang GT because they had me drive it to the body shop and back. After I parked it in the customer pick up area a lot boy had to take it out for a drive and somehow caved in the rear bumper. He put the car back and I got blamed. The only thing that saved me was another CSR saw the car was missing for a few minutes and thought it went back to the body shop.

That T4R looks like someones vehicle too, tires are too dirty. They are probably buffing out the bumper scratches before they release it back to it's owner. While yours they couldnt hide

The large dent before the fuel filler can probably pop right out with PDR. However, there is unfortunately a lot of paint damage lower on the bedside:
