A minimum-wage kid that's doing it only because driving cars is fun and easy. Add to that a large acreage property where one can get up to some real speed before even catching sight of the chain link fence, and the real question becomes how in the hell does it not happen daily.

No, If I damage something of yours that makes it worth less, then I should have to compensate you for the loss of value. If I dont compensate you for that loss in value, then your the one who looses that value and have to make it up with your own wage, or try to sucker the next person in line into compensating for the loss in value.

What you are doing is mixing labor costs with operational costs. If it costs more to heat the building, do you think the employee should get paid less because of that? Part of operational costs is accidental damage and should not reflect onto employee pay.

Stupidest advice of all. You don't want to involve your own insurance company. This is 100% on the dealer.

Reading some of these replies I’m no longer surprised when I hear about some asshole shooting a fast food worker over a dipping sauce dispute.

Just let the dealer fix the truck, keep it off carfax, and move on with life

Why do people keep comparing wrong orders in fast food with crashing your $40k truck that your probably paying a large chunk of money for 5 years. If I ordered a $40k burger and they dropped it, I would be pretty pissed off if they just slapped a new bun on it and didnt wipe off the hair.

No one is saying burn the dealership down either.... some people are saying that the truck has been repaired in a accident. Generally a accident is viewed as a negative thing when trying to sell a truck. If that accident causes a decrease in value then it should be addressed.

I get what some people are saying. I just don’t agree. This shouldn’t be a problem and I have no doubt the dealer would agree to keep this off the vehicles record. It’s some dents. That’s it. I’m not comparing burgers to 40k trucks… just pointing out over-reactions. I’d be aggravated too, but I’d work it out with the dealer and would move on. I suspect the OP is doing just that, considering his 2 posts total. But don’t let me ruin a good dealer bashing… carry on.

I think anyone demanding a new truck is over reacting, but ive worked in a body shop for a number of years, ive worked at a dealership for a number of years too. I know when these come back the paint doesnt always match and you can always tell its been repainted, sometime it does match though and then its great! There is also issues of quality on things like this, the dealer will want to get out as cheap as they can and it sometimes reflects in the work thats done.

Personally if it was my truck I would use this as a time to swap out the bed sides for those fiberglass ones that stick out further. The cost of repairing the bedside would offset my cost of getting something I wanted.

Haha, same. I’d be upset, but ask that they keep it off record and let me choose a shop of my own. Shit happens..

Except for the part where they deal with the dealership's insurance company on the customer's behalf. People are terrified of their own insurance companies for no reason.

    All good… that’s why I said “…reading some of the replies…”
I’d make damn sure myself, the repairs were done right.

I seen 4 vehicles get dumped off lifts in Two years. That’s a fun phone call to a customer or General manager.

At VW we had a red golf get new brakes put on. The tech left it on his hoist and went home. That evening the customer came to pick up his car, he stood in the drive isle and watched as the runner backed his car out of the stall, then ran it right through the garage door because the tech didnt pump the brakes back up after the repair. That was a hard one to watch.

Last dealer I worked at had a flat bed tow truck drop a car off for repairs. On their way out they knocked into an outdoor lift, which caused a Porsche to fall over and land on its roof. It was totaled in case anyone is wondering. o_O

The Lord works in miraculous ways. I've been blessed to see it more than once. Have some faith!

In this case arn't you getting a new bun, with no hair, but asking for compensation should you decide later to sell your hamburger to someone else, and possibly that person knows the bun was replaced, and has some sort of feelings about it? (regardless that a new bun makes the burg whole again)

If the dealer and the truck owner agree to have the dealership fix it outside of insurance... how would it show up on a carfax? I'd assume the dealership might not report this to the usual places that carfax gets its information, right? Not a trick... I'm geniunely curious about the sources of the accident information... and would a private transaction between the dealership and the truck owner require someone to report it?
