Keep your repair records. If the shop does not do a good job, it is just a matter of time surface rust may show up on the spot it was repaired. I also hope the shop will compensate you on the diminished value of the vehicle due to the reported damage for future reference.

It did. I worked at the dealer and drove and fucked it up. There were 86 iroc 350's w/5 speeds produced a very limited amount est. at 50. but they were produced.

What year was the car? I couldn’t get a 5.7 5 speed in 1989. Thanks for the clarification. Edit: would they have been 1LE’s?

I think the situation is very similar to the sticky...
FFS Let's all stop referencing the Magnussen Moss Act......

It really comes down to how you initially approach the conversation about diminished value with the dealer and how far they are willing to go to make things right and keep a customer. I believe the OP is entitled to ask for some compensation for the loss of value whether it shows up on CARFAX or not, however there are plenty of scenarios where OP walks away with NO diminished value compensation AND the dealer goes out of their way to make sure that the report gets posted to CARFAX.

There are calculators online that can be a guide to what you can expect to recoup, but the max is usually 10% of the blue book value and it goes down pretty quickly because of mileage and severity of damage. We don't know the mileage of the OP's truck, but because the damage is really just 1 bent sheet metal panel and some blending touchup on the cab, I would not expect more than $1000 diminished value.

Carfax receives data from repair shops, mechanic shops, police reports, insurance companies, possibly others. This is done by entering the VIN. If they are a car fax report compliant business and enter the VIN, it WILL show on your carfax. Be up front with them and require they understand and will comply if you want it off the books.

As some one who works as a technician at a toyota dealership (only while in uni) I can say for an absolute fact you are not the first and certainly not the last. It happens with new cars off the delivery truck to customer vehicles, even nascar VIP's vehicles. My dealership just fixes it in house at our collision center and gives a lifetime oil/rotate. my dealership is pretty good about making things right in the eyes of the customer in situations like this. unfortunately for the employee that did that its his last day, ive seen a technician fired for curbing wheels.

I've seen lot jockeys cause several thousands worth of damage/repairs and keep their jobs. Just depends on the dealer and the manager I suppose.

Not sure that's true. Considering the damage in the pics, if the two vehicles were different colors I'd choose which based on the color not the damage.

There are people that would buy a used car with ten new mechanical parts and all the receipts, over an identical car with no new parts and no receipts. I'd buy the car with original parts all day long.

Cosmetic damage is no big deal compared to abuse.

I would guess, if the person was responsible other wise, not one to go hot rodding around the lot. I could see it.

What world do you live in that your insurance company is your friend? It isn't a question of being terrified, it is knowing what their place is. They are not a law firm that you have on retainer. The only reason they would help you would be if you were asking them to pay for the damages. If it doesn't look like they will have to pay, they have zero reason to help you. In this case the dealer accepted responsibility and is willing to pay. Your insurance company would add zero value to this issue. If they denied responsibility and you had no other way to get your truck fixed other than a comprehensive claim, yeah, call your insurance company. You will be responsible for your deductible. They will pay to fix the damage and if they can get their money back from the dealership, they will. It has nothing to do with them looking out for you.

I would suggest taking the time to understand how insurance works. The catchy commercials are a bit misleading.

    UPDATE:
The dealership got me a rental car (which I feel is a given in this situation) but have kind of left me in the dark as to whats going on with the truck. I've had to call multiple times because I hadn't heard from any service manager as to an update about how they were going to make it right. I finally got a call last night saying that the car was in their body shop and they were still waiting on an estimate, a full day and a half after they ran into it...

The service manager assured me that it would not show up on any carfax but after receiving the estimate for $3700 for parts and labor I can't imagine that its not going to show up. I asked for their assurance that it would not show up on Carfax in writing and they squirmed a bit and I'm still waiting to see if they'll do that for me.

At this point I haven't been offered anything as far as oil changes, rotations, etc. and I haven't been assured that they would even be taking care of the service that I initially brought my truck in for, which is particularly frustrating as I feel like thats a no brainer.

The dealership is one of the biggest Toyota dealers in middle tennessee and I've been using them for 10 years- I can't imagine they'd want a customer to be pissed about the level of service given this situation but at this point it's been pretty nonexistent.

We'll see if I hear from them today...

    Work in progress

They are probably just very busy -- and everyone is so stressed out about COVID, post COVID, etc. that I would not worry too much about the day to respond.

Not sure how all the Carfax stuff plays out but if you handle the situation calmly you should be able to parlay it into a few extra goodies / benefits. Not great but at this point you are trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation.

So, it looks like they are on the repair and they will eventually communicate to you and step it up on customer service given the size of the dealer, your relationship, etc. as you mention. What I would do is come up with a list of fair and reasonable asks that you can request. Clearly, not something like a new truck. But maybe something you had your eye on that they could toss in to make it right ... and make both parties feel good about the situation. Free oil changes for life? Maybe. A TRD skid plate or some such equivalent accessory? Definitely a fair request.

Up to you, of course, but definitely ask. Years and years ago, the dealer dented my Subaru Forrester. They not only fixed it but tossed in a few accessories ($300 or so worth) and a $500 gift certificate to LL Bean, which they were running as a promotion and put me on the list.

Worth asking for a few reasonable things and seeing what comes back ... test how reasonable they are willing to be ...

You're right, you could never get a 5.7 5 speed. The 350 made more tq than the T5 was rated to handle. Didn't want to derail OPs thread into a what a POS turd gen had as trans options. :D
